Subject: Capezio lace up split-sole jazz shoes (inside)
In reply to: -- 's message, "Beginners boy soft shoe" on 16:19:43 08/16/21 Mon

Beginner boys reel shoes are just lace up jazz shoes. My son wore the Capezio brand and they can be ordered from Amazon. Some irish shoe sellers also sell used ones, you can call them to ask what they have and there are also a ton of Facebook groups for buying and selling second hand irish dance gear. When they are ready for hard shoes they will wear the same as the girls. If they stick with it and get to the Novice level they will switch to reel shoes with hard heels. It may be harder to find used shoes for boys but they are out there. Hope this helps.

Once he grows out of those shoes or advances out of the Beginner/AB level you should consider boy reel shoes (any feis vendor could help with those). My son now loves banging and clicking with the heels on his reel shoes, but your sons are better starting without them to learn basic dance technique (plus it's less of a distraction in class!).

It also gives them something to work toward - I treated the reel shoes with a heel as an incentive for my son to work hard and "level-up" to get them. He earned them and was a better dancer for it as he had the technique down before getting his reel shoes.

Good luck! Love to see more boys participating. :)
