I wonder if anyone at Talkin Tarn ARC can help me with some information about my Grandfather William Brown.I am particularly interested in obtaining copies of photographs or pictures of him that may lie hidden in the archives or indeed if anyone has any information at all, then I would be grateful.

He rowed his first regatta on the tarn in 1909. The limited information that I have on him suggests that he was quite succesful and he stroked the maiden fours with J.W Atkinson, S Bousfield & C Atkinson.
I have a newspaper article from May 1959 which says that he was Chairman and he launched two Four-oared skiffs, one of which was named William Brown, I wondered if this might still be in one piece?
I have some very happy childhood memories of summer holidays spent in the pleasure boats on the tarn and I am pretty sure that two of them were named Joan(after my Mother) and Enid, his two daughters. Could anyone please tell me if these are still in existance?
I am fairly sure that my Grandfather's nephew Malcolm Brown was also an active member of the rowing club and I believe that he may still live in Brampton, again, any information would be welcomed.
I hope that someone might be able to shed some light on his rowing career. I have looked at the archive pictures on your Web site but the pictures of W. Brown are not of my grandfather, he would have been much older at that time as I believe that he was born in 1891.
Thanks in anticipation.
