Subject: Promotion to Sergeant Major

Gentlemen,

At muster this past weekend Colonel Yokubaitis officially promoted Frank Marek to the rank of Sergeant Major. Frank Marek is a long-time member of the Texas Rifles, an affiliated unit of the Red River Battalion. While new to the rank, Frank brings many years of experience to the position including having served in various noncommissioned officer ranks, and company grade officer ranks. Most recently Frank was the company commander for the Texas Rifles. The Colonel is confident that Frank will fulfillment the responsibilities of his new position and bring a fresh perspective on to the Red River battalion staff.

Sergeant Major Marek is replacing Sergeant Major Wesley Crisp who has filled this position for the past ten years. Sergeant Major Crisp was renown within the hobby as being a role model, and was consistently willing to assist and advise all re-enactors in the hobby. While his position has been filled by the able Sergeant Major Marek, the long shadow cast by Sergeant Major Crisp will linger with many Red River battalion members.

It is hoped that Sergeant Major Crisp will be able to join the battalion at future events where he will join the ranks of the common soldiers at such events as Twiggs' Surrender in San Antonio.
