Dinesh

Your request is very broad based and a little odd.

Gears are never optimized for rack shift. Rack shift is a way of modifying a gear in order to change its geometry away from "Standard" For example, you may use rack shift in order to change tooth thickness which may give you a stronger or weaker tooth. You may use rack shift to give you a larger outside diamter or a smaller root diameter. This may affect the resulting contact ratio and provide for a change in load sharing amoung the teeth.

Optimization based on transmission ratio is not a very clear question. Many times one will look at designing a transmission to use a certain motor and you need to look at the optimal ratio in order to meet a certain speed of operation. Is this what you are referring to?

Off hand I cannot think of a specific information source to provide you. I would suggest that you try to find a good gear design book which has a section on modification of tooth forms away from standard.
