Ditto

It sounds as if you wish to be able to create a 3D model of a gear.

Although the involute profile is one of the most important features of the gear, it is actually quite easy to construct. The difficult thing is drawing the correct fillet geometry.

The fillet area of the tooth is not really a radius. It is a non-circular shape which is created by the generation of a straight sided rack through a sweeping motion with respect to the gear. The resulting shape is commonly referred to as a trochoid. I would suggest that it is not worth your time and effort to create this geometry from scratch, due to the large amount of time I would anticipate that it would take for a novice to do.

Our company markets a product which will create this geometry for you using a simple to use excel routine. It will create a .dxf file which can be loaded into ProE, or Catia, or Autocad, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Mastercam or any package that will accept a .dxf file input.
