This isn't censoring. It's called ENFORCING THE COPYRIGHT. The copyright
holder should have every right to control derivative works based on their
material. If I was writing a novel like Harry Potter, I certainly wouldn't
want fan fiction writers using my characters as a way to get off which some
fan fiction reads as. I would be mortally offended if some one had my
characters as gay when they were canonically straight. I'd question my
ability as a writer that I was writing it this way with the intention of x
and x being interpretted as y and y only to have it become gay, homosexual,
pornographic. I'd also question the intelligence of my fan base. I
wouldn't look at as censoring my fans but rather taking back control of what
was mine.
So you know, it is with JK's tolerance that fan fiction is allowed. If she
has no problem with it (and no indications of that being less than true at
this point), then I have no problem reading it, and archiving it. If she
has a problem with it, then I'd remove it from my archive and wouldn't read
it.
And you know, there is ZERO evidence of them having taken ANY active steps
to remove this material.
