Found the book and read it. It was rather good. Her changes to it made it read like shit. I gave both to people at the time this happened and asked which one they liked better. It was never Cassie.

Amen to that. Granted, I found "The Very Secret Diaries" amusing, and certainly enough so for me to re-read them after I'd had a hard day, but I haven't finished anything else by her - I simply haven't been able to. I promise you she does not in any way represent all of us.

I wouldn't say that. Some Harry Potter fanfiction writers are admittedly very poor at what they do - Mary Sues, cliche ideas and bad characterization - but some are very very good. I'd call Minerva McTabby, Ozma and Jadea (all of whom can be easily found by a name search at ff.net) to be very fine writers with a keen understanding of the characters and a rapier-sharp sense of humour.
