Debbie: I'm not sure which doll you have in question, but Operation Bootstrap was started by the late Lew Smith. Operation Bootsrap was a non profit organization intended to do a number of things including instill some positive Black self images in part by creating and selling ethnically correct Black dolls. In the early days, there were only a few dolls being made, Baby Nancy, Talking Tamu, a doll with simialr features dressed in pajamas called Dreamy DeeBee, and Malaika a fashion doll of a type.

My name is Ed Williams and I am one of the surviving former employees who worked at Shindana during the early to mid seventies. There is not a lot of historical information about Shindana Toys that I am aware of but maybe this little bit might help answer your question.
