Whats up my SD Street Racing friends? -- Rick, Tuesday, December 25, 01:03:11am
Hey my racer friends, I've been out of state for a few years now and I came back to San Diego for the holidays this year and one of the first things I wanted to do was check out the street racing scene because I just loved the good 'ol days hanging out with Rico, Curt, EC, the wicked stang boys (hahha just kidding), and the rest up at Togos on Balboa. Well I didn't even need to go by there to know that place isn't happening anymore but I hit up some of the recommended SD spots like Clairmont, CV, San Marcos etc. and yeah there was some action going on but I just really long for the days like it used to be with curt dog sawing off anything and everything just for the hell of it. That purple people eater Nova rolling out with Rico's support truck right behind full of slicks and fuel jugs and nitrous bottles. Man those were the good old days. So I got to see some action with some of the old timers but things have changed. Theres not a whole lot of takers at the raceds so the fast cars have resorted to racing sport bikes. I got to admit it's pretty sad thatyou cant drum up a simple heads up race anymore and you have to resort to sawing off "go die" bikes. So was I just at the wrong place or what? Where are the races poppin off now? Where is this Country Road thing I am reading about and how can I check it out? It seems like things just aren't like they used to be whereas where I live its still going off like it never skipped a beat. maybe not to the extent like it was here back in the day but its steady where I live.
somebody hit me up and point me in the right direction. Thanks
what happened to the east county crew and Country Road -- Sergio Hernandez -aka "HEADS UP" HERNANDEZ, Wednesday, June 20, 08:16:26pm
Hi guys I hope you country road racers check this board once in a while. As most of you know I have been away taking care of family business and now I am finally home. The first thing i did was check out the countryroad message board to my surprise is GONE. I haven't had a chance to drive by the road itself but now I'm scared. Is it still there? Are the races still going off? Man how i long for the good old days i mean way back when Rico and GK first invited me out. I dont see much activity on this board anymore. wow whats this world coming to? some of you CR guys wanna come by the Valley and I will show you a good time with some downhome good ol street racing. El Centro Style. C'mon you putos. lets do some racing!!!

Slick Rick Lost his life on the night of Oct 8, 2007 on 135th Street
Slick Rick and a few other bikers were on their way to a race on 135, going south down Main. They were traveling at a high rate of speed. A semi was turning around and getting positioned to back up into a business on Main. Slick Rick and a fellow bikers locked up the wheels leaving a skid mark @ a block long. Slick Rick hit the semi and went under the wheels, the bike kept going a few yards down, the other bikes got around the semi. Slick Rick had a low pulse but suffered an open wound to his abdomen and his head, he died a few min later. The Speedo on the bike was stuck at 110mph. Bruce, a fellow biker who stop to see if Slick Rick was OK. For being at the scene, he was arrested for Felony Speed Contest and Felony Manslaughter. He was not involved, just stayed to help. My God bless Slick Rick's soul.
I was ask when is T.I. going to open, cause this would have been avoid if it was open. I agreed

Rick & I use to race at TI all the time. Last time he got hurt on his bike I saw him in the hospital. We talked about how important it is to have the track. In the last year Big Willie and I have been fighting city hall (Wilmington) to please let us open a track, even an 1/8th mile. We finally got an LAPD Police Chief behind us and were are still trying. My condolences to Rick's family. I met his mom & sister when he was in Harbor General a while back. For all those street racers I understand. I am still trying to get us all another track. My prayers are with you Rick.

Avoid Co-Op Transmission in Santee! -- Don (Angry), Monday, September 10, 09:11:09am
In May of 2007, the transmission started going out in my 2001 Isuzu Trooper. It started slipping in first gear. It had 85,000 miles on it. I took it to a place that had been in business down the street for 20+ years, Camino Transmission in Encinitas, California: http://www.caminotransmission.com/caminotransmissions/
They inspected it and told me it basically needed an entire rebuild. I said ok.
Ten days and $3600 later, I picked it up. It had a 12 month warranty, as explained to me and written on the receipt. I assumed, not knowing what type of paperwork to look for, that this was an official ATRA warranty (it was not, as I was told later).
The day after I picked it up, I drove it only four miles and it failed catastrophically; noise, smoke, cockpit lit up red, flashing like a Christmas tree. I barely made it off the road into a nearby parking lot.
They towed it back and got me a rental car while they fixed it. Well, ok to that point. I picked it up a week later.
After driving it for a couple months I noticed a leak. I took it back to Camino Transmission and what did I see? The place had closed shop and was fully cleaned out. This after 20+ years in business.
After extensive internet/phone searching*, I found out some things. The same person who ran the shop (I’ll refer to him as MR) has another shop near Santee, 40 miles away (Co Op Transmission). The shop he closed (Camino Transmission) was incorporated (ETS Transmission Systems, Inc.), and he shut down that corporation.
*[I called Encinitas Chamber of Commerce and found that MR had bought Camino Transmission from the previous owners around 2006/2007. I called the City of Encinitas Business License department and found that Camino Transmission was a fictitious business name (DBA) of a corporation called ETS Transmission Systems, Inc. I then searched the California Secretary of State’s website: http://www.sos.ca.gov in the California Business Portal section, California Business Search, and saw that the corporate agent for ETS Transmission Systems is MR. Searching on his name obtained from the sos site, I found MR’s myspace site (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=11045503) and on that he states he is the “Owner/Operator” of both Camino and Co Op Transmissions in El Cajon, CA. (El Cajon is adjacent to Santee, and he had to move down the road because of freeway construction – an unrelated fact). I then went to the San Diego County Clerks website to search for Co Op Transmission: http://arcc.co.san-diego.ca.us/arcc/services/fbn/search.aspx and found that Co Op Transmission is registered as CTS Transmissions Systems, Inc. Then from the sos site I found MR listed as the corporate agent (verifying his myspace info). I then searched for Co Op Transmission and found this site which lists their phone number: http://www.ocautoservice.com/San_Diego_Transmission.asp]
MR’s shop near Santee, Co Op Transmission (CTS Transmission Systems, Inc.), appears to be located in an unincorporated area in San Diego County, so he can operate there legally without a business license.
I called that shop and the same front desk guy that was at Camino answered the phone. I informed him who I was and told him I had a slight leak. He said that they were “trying to take care of the Camino customers”, so I could bring it in.
By the time I got there, after 40 miles on the freeway, the transmission started failing again, not engaging in first gear. I barely made it into the shop.
They had to keep it overnight, and I had to rent a car at my expense, as they said this time “the warranty” doesn’t cover car rental.
Two days later, I drove my rental car back out there to pick it up. The first thing I noticed was a pool of transmission fluid underneath it. I insisted that they actually fix the leak. I ended up waiting all day while they did that. They said that the shifting problem was just a band that needed slight adjustment.
I made it the 40 miles back home that day, but the transmission again got worse. It started shuttering badly going into first unless I just barely accelerated. I called Co Op Transmission a few days later and MR told me to “bring it in”. I said I can’t, and that he needed to send someone down to pick it up. His response was that at this point they would not honor the Camino warranty.
After extreme due diligence, I located another, much more reputable shop (Metro Transmission in San Marcos) and decided to take it there. I barely managed to drive it the ten miles from my house. They took the transmission apart and showed me the ugliness.
This is what Metro Transmission noted on the work order: “Inspected transmission and found 1-2 band over-adjusted and burnt up, band went metal to metal with the drum, 2nd clutch pack had stacked clutches, planetary (O/D) pitted, all solenoids are original, during the removal found bell housing bolts mismatched and one stripped, exhaust gaskets torn and exhaust studs stripped.” This after spending $3600 for a rebuild a couple of months earlier.
It needed a total rebuild, again. I had to spend another $3700. My rebuilt transmission was now up to $7300.
Metro Transmission seems to have done a fine job. I picked the Trooper up 5 days later, it’s been working well ever since, and they gave me a “real” ATRA warranty (now I know what one looks like). Metro seems to be an established, qualified shop.
I called MR and explained to him what Metro had found. I told him that he should refund my money for a totally botched job. He refused.
I asked what about the ATRA warranty, since his website listed them as an ATRA-certified shop? He told me that “not every job gets the ATRA warranty”. So I guess that my $3600 rebuild was not enough to qualify for the “good” warranty.
With Camino being a separate corporation (with no significant assets), I can’t get my money back by suing the corporation, I can’t sue MR since his is not personally liable, the BBB says their “hands are tied” and can do nothing, the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) also says they can do nothing, and complaints made to ATRA have had no responses.
So there is nothing that I can do to get my money back. All that I can do is tell this story on the internet for the sake of anyone who is considering taking their vehicle to Co Op Transmission and is searching for information about it.
I have the vehicle, digital pictures of the worn parts that were replaced (along with the actual parts), and the receipts (also scanned as PDF’s) from Camino and Metro.
In case any of MR’s internet links no longer work or have been changed, I have snapshots of them (taken on 8/29/07) also. I will email anyone any of this documentation.
Hopefully this story will spare some other people from going through the same loss.

Due to new public flying safety requirements imposed on the Inyokern Airport by the Federal Aviation Administration, the Inyokern Dragstrip has cancelled the remainder of the 2005 season and has officially closed its gates. The track personnel are working with the NHRA and other track managers to move the scheduled Junior ET Bracket Finals to another track. Racers who have already registered will be notified as soon as the decision on the new location of the finals is reached. The Inyokern Dragstrip would like to thank all of the racers, fans and volunteers whose support had kept them in business for all of these years.

Street Racing - San Diego style -- Mark, Monday, April 11, 07:39:13pm
Man I thought you guys were full of shit when you said street racing was still going on, so I had to see it for myself. I dusted off the trusty Stang and I went out last weekend and sure as shit there it was. Not a huge gathering like the old days but there they were... Couple CHevelles, a Nova, and of course a grip of Mustangs and Camaros, then about 11pm we all roll out to an undisclosed location and proceed to get some heads up action on. Then on to the second location before heading home with the feeling I used to get back in '99 when we were bustin passes off in front of JBA. I'm putting the slicks back on some wheels and putting the N20 back on.
Street Racing -- Street Racing Fan #1, Monday, February 21, 10:11:36am
Went out on Friday night and was glad to see that despite what most think, street racing is alive and well in San Diego. It took some time for the streets to dry out and just when we thought it was good enough to run on then here comes the showers again. Finally drove to a spot down the road where it was dry enough and got to see some heads up action early Saturday morning. Slicks, nitrous, heads up domestic and even some pretty fast import action. And you thought street racing was dead. hahaha

Task Force Cracks Down On Illegal Street Racing
POSTED: 6:32 am PDT October 6, 2004
UPDATED: 8:01 am PDT October 6, 2004
LOS ANGELES -- Police in Van Nuys arrested 11 people in connection with street racing and plan to destroy the two of cars seized from racers, police said Wednesday.
"When we tell them if they race here, we're going to crush their cars, it gets their attention," Los Angeles police Detective Robert Graybill said.
"And that's all we want to do," Graybill said. "We want these kids to enjoy their cars ... have a good time, but we want them to be safe and we don't want to lose any kids like we recently have."
Police found 35 carloads of people assembled for races in the 8000 block of Haskell Avenue Tuesday night.
Two Ford Mustangs were confiscated, it was reported.
On Friday, two Village Christian School seniors were killed in a high-speed, head-on collision police have blamed on racing.
The Chevrolet Camaro Nicholas Roth and Christopher Oliver, both 17, were riding in was going roughly 90 mph when it crossed onto the wrong side of La Tuna Canyon Road and struck a pickup truck head-on about 2:15 p.m. that day, police said.
That same day, a Pasadena High School student died in a crash adjacent the campus.

67 Chevy Camaro RS -- mean green, Tuesday, November 09, 01:30:53pm
project car, tubbed backhalf car, fiberglass doors, fenders, hood, roller 468, T400 w/brake, Dana 60 w/Strange spool and axles, 2 stage NOS, 1050 dominator, Centerline Pro Stock wheels, The fresh motor starts and runs perfect,1/2-3/4 of the fab work done. All the tin work needs to be done. Have most of the parts to assemble. The car went 9.48 at only 126, on it's 3rd shakedown run, definite 8 sec. potential. Not street legal, and do not have a pink slip. Ive owned the car since 1988 and knew the previous owner. The car was never going to see the street so I never bothered getting any kind of registration, Im sure I can get some type of registration from the DMV prior to sale. too much too list, $9000.00 Click on the links for pics. Many more pics available thru email. 760-952-3879 ask for George

Palmdale's LACR is holding another street race event, the last one two months ago was very successful. No timers, flashlight/flagman starts, set cars out, anything you want to do on the street is allowed at the track. It will be held Oct 30 2004.
C R Racers featured on CMT -- check it out, Saturday, August 28, 11:21:27pm
I saw the CR on Country Music Television!!!! That blown and sprayed Z06 is bad ass. I believe that footage was shot on none other than the Country Road! I'd like to see more of that. Also some shots of Rico, Traver's Maro, and EC and the PPE Nova.
