I have never heard of a refundable deposit on a car. That defeats the whole purpose of a deposit on something. Traditionally a deposit is a down payment that implies that the balance of the sale price is going to be paid within a certain period of time. During that period, the buyer has the option to have the car inspected or check the title at the DMV or whatever before the balance is paid. A deposit is basically to buy you time before shelling out the rest of the $$$. Although the seller of the car was probably not put out much by waiting 2 days, she could have potentially sold it during this time. she has a legal right to keep your deposit. I know thats not what you want ot hear but thats the way it is.

J
when you make a deal with that person and they expressly know that the deposit was only to show good faith until the person that was to look at the car gave the word to buy it. The person in question knew up front what the $$$ was for. The 200 bucks aint JACK but the principal of it means something!!! Enjoy

Do you have a receipt for the deposit? If you have one that states the purpose of the deposit to be just that then you may have recourse. you may also have some recourse as verbal contracts are as enforcable in the court of law as written ones, they are just harder to prove to the judge.
