Chums,
Ya know, it's really pretty sad. After the re-release of the Ken Burns Civil War documentary on PBS and the upcoming release of Gods and Generals (even with it's problems it will still create a new group of civil war enthusiasts), it seems that some tremendous opportunities are going to be wasted. Instead of good authentic events, the powers-that-be are going to take advantage of the renewed interest in the civil war and use it primarily as monetary adventures. Perhaps instead of the megaturbofarbfestfunnelcakehootenanycivilwarthemedextravaganza, we need to renew OUR efforts towards local battlefields and historic sites. There are many areas in our neck of the woods that can use our support, without having to travel east and give our time, effort, and cash to the individuals who exploit reenactors/living historians. While I'd love to see the massive numbers that will surely be at G140, I have no problem with staying home and actually doing something beneficial towards historic preservation. Just my not-so-humble opinion.
Corn
