Greetings,

First of all, thanks to Jeremy for posting this report! I have been emailing Mike Lavis, who by the way is the Western Brigade commander, to try and get a copy of it.

I think what is lost here is the opportunity for the North/South Alliance to build on the momentum of Perryville. There are varied reasons for the NSA going east, as opposed to doing the planned 2003 event in Tennessee.

First, there's a certain CSA brigade in the 1st Con Div that was rumored to have point blank stated it was going to Gullysburg, and the rest of the divison may as well go along.

I also heard there was a concern with there being two new division commanders in the NSA, and how this would give them a year off from having to plan a national event.

Additionally, there has been a recent concern in the NSA about numbers, and it was thought that the 'glamour' of a 140th GBurg would attract numbers. The old lemmings/bright lights theory I suppose...

Finally, I've heard there may have been site problems in Tennessee with Spring Hill.

Regardless, a brilliant opportunity is being wasted. As we are talking about this, back east they are talking about the success of the NSA, and the western mega event ala Chickamauga, Raymond and Perryville. What does this say if we go east for one of their turbo farb fests?

I can't believe the NSA leadership bought into this. I mean, ANY local event here in the west could've been turned into a 'national' for the NSA. As light as the western units travel, it would not have been hard.

With all respects to supporting the NSA, I'm not even thinking about this event. And that takes alot to say as I have a lot of respect for Mark Dolive. I made the mistake of going to Manassas 140. I've seen the recent editions of a eastern reenactment. They are scheduled with the sole purpose of making money, with absolutely no regard to the living historian, much less authenticity.

Anyone who has read the AAR's from A140 knows that this will not change anytime soon. And now, we have the preliminary reports from G140...

Plus, there's no way in hell I'm going to be gone from my family for the 4th of July weekend. This point is very important for those of us who have to selectively pick and choose the events we attend. For our eastern brethren this is a moot point. Many of their battalions already have families in camp. Plus, they are only a few hours at the most from home.

There are some fine LH events out west on the horizon for 2003, including the budding TMLHA efforts at Mansfield. I think many more members of the NSA will realize this as well, and 'speak with their feet...' I can't say for the 1st Con Div, but I'm sure the 1st Fed Div will be a mere shell of itself at G140. Is it not too late to stop this insanity?

My two cents. Or a little more...

On to Prairie Grove...! Brrrr.
