Subject: Mansfield update

The LH went great this past weekend. There were quite a few spectators who showed up, and we entertained and educated them in our encampment around the cabin and with artillery firing demos.

I rode to the event with Stephen Mitchell of the 1st TX Livingston Guards, his girlfriend, and another of the Guards. We had to drive past Pleasant Hill to drop off the second fellow at his grandparents' house. To get there, we passed the mining operation, and Steve's girlfriend volunteered to snap a few pics. Gents, this operation has basically turned a section of battlefield into a replica of the Grand Canyon. The devastation continued as far as the eye could see. Two of the huge, quick-moving cranes were in operation. We will post the pics as soon as possible. This is a serious threat.

On a happier note, we stopped by a tiny museum composed of the collections of a local relic hunter. Among the amazing artifacts was the dug remains of a Enfield reportedly dug in the vicinity of the lines of the 77th Illinois at Mansfield. No, I couldn't read the lockplate!

Phil Graf.
