Subject: Which Texans?

Guys,

I have an account written by a man in the 29th WI Inf describing the Confederates he was opposing at Mansfield. He said, "The Texans were wearing dark uniforms." The account was written to the man's local newspaper and is contemporary with the event. Tom Arliskas, who some of you guys know is a frequent and long-time contributer to the CMH Journal (he's the guy who's knack has always been finding references to CS uniforms, based on northern newspaper accounts), was the fellow who sent this to me a couple of years ago, for our Mansfield event. His wife is working on a regimental history of the 29th WI Inf and that's how the account was uncovered. Tom's actually working on a book on Confederate uniforms, based on the research he's uncoved through the years (I wonder how much was research his wife uncovered and he took the laurels for--ha ha, just kidding Tom, if you're reading)...looking forward to seeing it, since it's based entirely on primary sources...

OK, my question is, which Texans were in the 29th's front at the opening of the battle (the situation I think he was describing)? Tom has never been able to tell--what do you think? I'd post the account, but most of my files are in disarray from my thesis still. I might be able to post it when I get back from the 9th Texas muster this weekend...
