Hey Guys,

I spoke with the 6th TX boys this weekend at the Red River Battalion muster (more later on this, btw) and they said that someone in the Austin area might be able to help do some digging in the Univ of TX for me. The Barker Collection has the papers of Captain N.E. Birge who was a Trans-Mississippi Confederate QM officer throughout the entire war. He started out as the regimental QM for the 3rd TX Cav and continued in that service until shortly after the Pea Ridge Campaign, when he was detailed to set up the Monroe, LA depot. He then set up the Shreveport, LA Depot in 1864. The collection is immense and I only had a few hours there, but if someone has some time and would be interested in digging through the three boxes of file folders that comprise the collection, I think there could be some answers to what CS troops in LA looked like for most of the war. I only looked at the early stuff because I was trying to find some info for my cav pards for Wilson's Creek--so looked only at the 3rd TX Cav stuff for 1861 and early 1862.

I have a lot more to say about this collections' significance--just wanted to see if anyone out there was interested (because LA theater stuff is pretty back-burner for me, which is why I haven't acted on this sooner anyway..but now that there is someone doing LA Campaign stuff regularly, I'd like to help out...)Lemme know...
