Both of the Child's patterns you mentioned are good ones. I've actually sewn a Holliday shirt before. I'm by no means a good seamster. It's a real good pattern to start out with if you want to handsew a shirt yourself. The LA pattern is tricky and requires some experience, since it's not a straight cut pattern. I recently bought a 100% handsewn LA shirt from The Homefront. The craft on it is incredible and I would highly recommend buying from them. They also offer issue shirts as well. As Phil mentioned issue shirts are under-represented. Family Heirloom has some awesome domet flanel for those. I have one (Child's pattern) cut out and plan to sew it up soon. Another thing to consider is wearing a civilian shirt under the army shirt. The domet is very abrasive, but the CW soger was used to discomfort.
