Bellmead was in the words of LT Joe Walker a "C" Event. They really took care of us this year. There were a few funny stories to come out of this which I shall pass along.
On sat during the battle, your author took a hit. As I was trying to crawl off the battlefield (lost my musket wrench and lock pick doing same), the yankees passed over me. Paw Paw of your unit seeing my agony, broke ranks and propped me up and gave me a drink from his canteen. A Lt from the 173rd, stopped Paw Paw and told him to close up. Paw Paw replied "He is my cousin, I gotta help him". Paw Paw tended to me a few minutes more and rejoined the fight. The crowd loved it.
Second incident occurred sunday morning, as the 6th Texas was crawling out of its oilcloths and gumblankets and starting to rise, out of the metroplex of canvas tents came a Living Historian. Let me describe the fine fellow, red kepi, red cotton bib firemans shirt, white canvas pants (minus the painters pocket) and white gaiters. He turned to us and yelled out "F#@king Hardcores".
Your author rose from stoking the fire, tipped his hat and replied "And damn proud of it".
Lastly my wife and my brother and law were watching the big battle rage on Sunday. They were standing beside some young lads about 10-12 years old. The boys were pointing to various
men fighting. My wife said "the one in the big brown hat there is my husband".
The boys looked at me below, then my brother in law, turned to my wife and said "who is that (pointing to my brother in law) are you a player or something with two husbands"?
I wanna say how good your small band looked at Bellmead. They did the 26th Ill proud. However Rooster needs singing lessons REALLLLLLLL bad.

YOS...............Pvt Dusty
