Greetings,

Most of all, this event showed that we have a solid nucleus of serious living historians in the Trans Miss/N Texas area. I agree with Jeremy in that Cross Timbers suffered for lack of participants. A full Federal battalion in that outpost scenario would've been awesome.

We could have properly utilized a grand guard and the different posts. Maybe even got in a little drill. Also, our probe Sunday AM would have definitely been more effective if we had another company in support.

The ground was superb, though it seemed as if half the chigger and tick population of North Texas thought so also. The chiggers were so fierce, they drove right through the Repel I had in my socks... My ankles are covered with my wife's nail polish ;) Also, speargrass sucks...

This was a solid building block for future events. Before I had even left the sight, I already heard talk of how to improve it in the future. The biggest concern was the heat, and any future events would probably be scheduled for March.

Though it didn't seem too hot on Saturday, I couldn't believe how fatigued and overheated I was... I seriously questioned myself once or twice whether I could finish the weekend.

On a positive note, the night under the stars Saturday night was most pleasant. After a tough season of winter/spring campaigning through cold nights, it was a nice change of pace to get some comfortable sleep.

My hats off to all of my Federal pards, and our commanders, Dave Cosly, Major Benefiel, Col. Dolive, and yes, even King Jack. Also, to our authentic brothers in grey. Let's keep this up!

I'm working on Mansfield for July, but it'll be tough with the cherub coming...

Regards,

Mike Phineas
