Subject: Shiloh Relics Repop Enfield Ramrod

Pards,

After seeing Pig Pen's fine new and more authentic rammer repop sold by Shiloh Relics at the last Mansfield, I decided to go ahead an make a purchase for myself.

If you want to look at a picture of the rammer, go to:

http://www.shilohrelics.com

Search under Firearms, then Ramrods, and then it is at the top of the list.

Or, perhaps this link will work for you:

In mid May they didn't have a Secure Website Ordering system, so I made a phonecall. He shipped priority USPS, and it arrived within 3 days. He let me know that sometimes finding a box long enough for them may cause a delay in shipping, so I recommend if folks are interested, they should pool some money together for an order of several rammers.

Looking at mine new rammer, the first thing noticeable is that there are no threads, because they didn't want them to be confused with an original. However, I think this idea is pretty good, because with a tool and die set, you can add your own threads, so the rammer will fit a period wiper and tools or just modern tools. My rammer is about an inch longer than the one which came with my Armisport, but can be easily trimmed off with a hacksaw.

Comparing the two rammers (the Armisport and the Shiloh Relic), there are some pretty distinguishing differences. The tulip is shaped differently, narrower, and has a smaller hole. The shaft is narrower as well on the Shiloh repop, which seems to be more like the originals. The Shiloh repop also fits just fine in the channel below the barrel, and the retaining spring holds it in place, so you shouldn't worry about losing it.

Well, I've gabbed on long enough. If anyone is interested, I can take a couple of comparison pictures. Just email me at the address above.

I remain, your humble and obedient, etc,

Francis Scott
