First of all, I want to commend Brother Maynard for the incredible effort and dedication he put towards this event. It certainly would not have happened were it not for him. Kudos!

I'll start with the Cons and get them over with first...
Cons:
Yahoos- Unfortunately, there always seems to be fools that can't follow scenario guidelines and then get pissy when people who ARE following the scenario don't "play along" with them.
Weather, skeeters, etc- Friday pretty much sucked with the rain and of course the mosquitos wreaked havoc on me, but there's nothing to be done about either one. Just gotta deal with it.
Getting sick Sat afternoon- in a nutshell, I felt like a big bucket of ass. I hadn't had a headache that bad in years. Slept all the way home, then went to bed when I went home and slept another 16 hrs straight. Woke up for a few hours, then went back to sleep for another 10. Gotta love being sick.
Spectators (or lack thereof)- Basically, I see things like this... There are authentic civil war reenactors and living historians and then there are clueless farbs. I feel that we, as authentics, have an obligation and a duty to educate people that come to events. 'Taters sure aren't learning anything from mingling around in the farb tent cities and seeing "soldiers" drinking out of pop or beer cans and generally just being well,..farbs. I realize that this event was designed to be totally immersive and have specific tours, but when we look at the total number of spectators that paid a $6 entry fee and compare that to the 20 or so that actually witnessed authentic civil war "soldiering," I feel that we missed a good opportunity. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of people whose only view of civil war life were the farbs that didn't have a clue. Surely we can do better than that.

Pros:
First Person (firper)- This is somewhat new to many people, but all things considered I think everyone did an outstanding job. There are always lapses, but there were people that were quick to point out those lapses and guide back into character. Great job guys.
Basic soldiering- Everything that was needed for the weekend was humped in (with the exception of water) and everyone lived like soldiers on campaign, built works where needed, cleared fields of fire, plotted positions on maps, made all necessary coordinations with chain of command, etc. This is obviously something that's rarely done in farbdom. Once again, great job guys.

Suggestions:
All in all, I'd say things went well. This was a new adventure here in Texas and although there were some faults, they were things that can be learned from and improved upon. We need to reach out to other authentic-minded individuals in the region, encourage those fence-sitters who might progress towards the campaigner side, and strive more towards educating the spectators as to what civil war soldiers *really* experienced. Again to those that participated, great job!

Your Obn't Svnt,
Corn
