Glen-

I haven't heard anything about a knitted issue shirt. The two issue shirts I am aware of are the domet flannel issue shirt and the contract shirt. The domet flannel shirt was made of semi-coarse wool and has the familiar single-button enclosure at the neck. The contract shirt comes in different colors, and has a 4-5 button opening. It is also of a square frame, which allowed for faster and easier construction. These shirts are known to have been issued by Federal quartermasters. Of course the men soon learned that it was always handy to have a shirt from home nearby.

But you got me stumped on the knitted issue shirt.
