First off, I must say that this was probably the best overall event experience I've had in this state. It wasn't perfect, but it was very good.

Here's some of the not-so-perfect aspects:
1. Though first person was encouraged, it seems that in most of the CS camps, it wasn't enforced very well.

2. The "battles" with the mainstreamers were about as bad as expected, if not worse. On both days, these were the lowest points.

3. Mostly due to the above, sometimes contact with the enemy had to be ignored. Not a real major thing, but it did spoil the moment occasionally.

4. Both sides can take a lesson here: if you're in a "tactical" situation, and it's pretty obvious you'd be hit if real bullets were used, go down. If it's blatantly obvious you've shot the same person 5 times, and he knows it, but still won't go down, IGNORE HIM instead of yelling "you're dead!" Seriously, hearing everyone yelling this really takes away from the experience. It turns a portrayal of history into a bunch of kids playing guns.

For the most part, I loved the weekend. Here are some of the reasons why:

1. First contact on Saturday morning was AWESOME. Bushwhacking in the woods, and fighting the Federals for every bush and tree was amazing.

2. For some reason, first person interactions between US and CS worked better than within the CS camps. The opportunity to talk to Jeremy and friend while I was standing picket duty in the middle of the night was awe-inspiring. The fun we had with the Federal prisoners was something I've never experienced anything close to.

3. This relates to the above, but needs its own paragraph. The interaction that Pigpen and I had while prisoners was a heck of a lot of fun, especially with Capt. Spittle. Filling in sinks and firepits was a small price to pay for the opportunity to be obnoxious. I wish I could describe this experience better, but one "really had to be there."

4. Though not perfect by any means, the authenticity in terms of material culture was pretty decent. Yes, the CS guidelines were for the wrong theater of the war, but it was much better than the rest of the mainstreamers at the event. At least people seemed to follow the guidelines.

Overall, I had a great time, and so did the rest of the 15th TX. One of the praises given for the carpe eventum at Perryville is that the event was not perfect, but did deliver what it promised. I would say the same is true for Liendo. My expectations were met, and even exceeded. The fact that this is the first year, and so many people were involved is amazing! Hats off to all those who put this thing together, and participated.
