Subject: Ideas of Authenticity (This is long)

First off I would like to say that this isn't directed at anyone that commonly visits this board, my main direction is towards others, that I doubt will ever read this. So I'm just kinda looking for opinons from the masses that are doing it right out here in the Trans-Miss.

Most Hardcores have a habit of referring to the Campaigners Manifesto as the guide that should not be broken. Recently on another board one of the Moderators made the comment that the use of latex was the only way to make a correct ground cloth. Correct me if I wrong but latex isn't period. If I read it right #2 of the Campaigners Manifesto says, "I obtain the most historically accurate clothing, equipment, and other relevant items available to me. I insist upon the use of proper materials and construction techniques in all reproduction items." So would using lamp black, linseed oil, and japan dryer be closer, and more in line with what the manifesto has in mind? When confronted on this fact he deleted the response as confrontational. Hypocracy or just me being over sensitive?
When one goes to an event that is known to be mainstream, why gripe and moan about it. All too common is the post about such and such event that was a total farb-fest.These gripers knew going into it what to expect. Once again does this contractdict what some preach on a daily basis as the guidlines for modern campaign reenacting? I would like to present item #18 on the Manifesto, " I see "mainstream" reenactors as potential converts to living history at higher levels of historical accuracy, and I avoid conflict with them. I conduct my relations with them in a manner consistent with the behavior expected from mid-19th century gentlemen. However, I do maintain my own high standards of excellence for portraying Civil War soldier life."By adhearing to this does it not add to the hardcore A**hole mentality? So many posts make fun of farbs, that if I were still in that mentality I would say, "screw you guys too." So by a moderator saying the F***ing Farbs should read the manifesto are we not contradicting what we are trying to preach? Hypocracy?
Just a few observations over what we are doing over what we are preaching. Once again this isn't directed towards the board or anyone who frequents it. Just wanted opinons from pards.
