While NOT wanting to discourage any Fed reenactors from going CSA with Brother Maynard, I will say that Cal Kinzer is considering raising a Fed company for this event.
Cal has a good relationship with Jack King, and plans to possibly field a company within Jack's galvanized Fed battalion. The TX Bgde did fed a couple years back, and looked to have a bully time. They did a short 4-5 mile march into the site on Sat AM, participated in the battles, slept on arms on the picket line, drilled prodigiously, and I think even did a retreat or parade.
If you are considering this event, and can't come up with the CSA gear, or do not wish to do the 17 mile march, this will be a worthwhile alternative. Cal's boys in the 55th Illinois are first rate, and all of us who've served under him know he's a serious player. Most of us Feds will probably go with him at Pickett's Mill, and again at Franklin with the AoP.
By the way, I was also VERY tempted to do the CSA side of this. It sounds most excellent. I even spoke with Doug Cooper about borrowing the gear. But getting the very authentic kit together to meet the 15th TX standards would've been tough. Besides, as a western fed reenactor, I just can't bring myself to do it... Yet. ;~)
