LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Aug. 5) - Armed men wearing ninja disguises locked two bank employees inside a vault during a holdup Tuesday, then escaped before police stormed the bank three hours later.

Authorities said they had no surveillance video of the robbery or witness reports about a getaway vehicle. The FBI would not disclose how much money was stolen or why the bank cameras did not record the robbery.

The robbers were hiding in a ditch behind the Atlantic States Bank and surprised the two women bank employees when they arrived at about 8:30 a.m., FBI spokesman Joe Parris said. They locked the women inside a vault.

A customer arriving at the bank a short time later called 911, police said.

Police sealed off roads and called in about 40 SWAT team members, and just after noon, officers entered the building and found the women unharmed in the vault.

No suspects were found, and police spokesman Cpl. Dan Huggins said it appears the robbers had escaped before officers arrived.

The employees rescued from the vault were being questioned.

``I think they're thankful to be out of there,'' Huggins said.

He said police were investigating whether the robbery was related to a similar one at a bank in nearby Lilburn on July 24.

Lawrenceville is an Atlanta suburb, on the northeast side of the metropolitan area.
