Only problem with that is that you sometimes lose page settings on your regularly visted sites.

Another thing you might try is setting your page to "blank", in that case, when you open up whatever page that has this re-direction of your home page, it will usually ask first if you want to make it your home page. That's an old response based on the old connection issues people used to have.
