Further information:
Charnock, John - Biographia Navalis or Impartial Memoirs of the Live and characters of Officers of the Navy of Great Britain From the year 1660 to the Present Vol V

The fruits of this victory were, the Phoenix, of eighty guns, the flag-ship od Admiral Juan de Langara; the Monarca, Princessa and Diligente, of seventy guns each, captured; and the St. Domingo, of the same force, blown up in action. The St. Julian and St, Eugenio, of seventy guns, also surrendered; an officer, with some men, were put on board one of them; but these ships were afterwards driven on shore by the violence of the wind, and the latter if not both, totally lost.

My attempt at translation.
In the Battle of Cape Santa María, in which the squadron of Rodney faced that of Lángara, the San Julián was captured by the British who wanted to take it to Gibraltar. The British prize crew didn't know the coast. The night was bad and the state of the ship was not good. The ship grounded, touching her copper on Arenas Sands and she was in imminent danger of sinking. The British requested help to the Spaniards who consented only on condition of going to a Spanish port. Alejandro Malaspina (officer that years later would take an extraordinary scientific trip all over the world) took the control of the ship. On one morning in January of 1780 she entered Cádiz. the Spanish leading some British prisoners that hours before had been the in charge of the ship.
The ship was broken up that same year.

The San Eugenia, 70, is not listed on this site.

I could find only a brief mention of the Battle in the London Gazette. There may be more if prize money was issued.

Regards,
Bob
