The inventory of what they captured was interesting. Harvey's dispatch did not name the transports because he was reporting to the Admiralty, not the Transport Board.

That's a pretty light crew for a 74, although the Spanish did not need as many men to work the guns as the British did (because 24's don't need as many men as 32's). But 3 × 450 for the 74's, 600 for the 80, and 350 for the 64 would be 2,300, so they were at least 25% short unless the 1,032 is seamen and there were other unskilled crew members not counted but who could still heave on a gun tackle.

Yes, but the French had 36-pounders (39 English pounds) on their 74's, while the Spanish only had 24-pounders. Even though those fired shot weighing nearly 26 English pounds, they were still lighter than the 32-pounders on British 74's. Spanish 18's were about 19½-pounders in English measurement, but their 8-pounders did not fire shot any heavier than English 9-pounders. Comparison of broadside weights (without carronades):
English common-class 74--14 × 32, 14 × 18, 9 × 9 = 781 pounds
Spanish 74--14 × 24, 14 × 18, 9 × 8 = 713 English pounds
