If remember correctly, there are some cost details in Rif Winfields book on the Royal Navy I'll try and look it up tonight.

The British used sheets of paper as a layer between the copper and the hull. Apparently this was enough to prevent a chemical reaction between the copper and the iron bolts used to hold the hull together.

Wikipedia claims the cost of a third rate was around £1500 (quoting Lavery)
