Hello Gen!

Some personal notes from my modest opinion and reading about the WAI....

> The Spanish would have been
>nervous about sending their ships away from the bases
>and possessions they were assigned to protect.

This is a good reason, Spain had always a big deal and did much more than expected with his american possesions...we always say that for many years in between 1600-1800, not many spanish convoys with gold and goods were captured by the british, I can not recall right now...but if there were 100 trips, I dont think England had intercepted as much as a 5?, thats only a 5% or less I think, if we consider the spanish naval power with the british.

But the histoians pointed out that Spain could not openly support WAI because of his own interests in North America & Caribbean....of course they were glad to support it, but always in the background (money, goods & arms) to get britain off there and always a natural enemy bussy with somebody else is a good new.

> So, the
>>concept of the Spanish joining in with DeGrasse isn't
>>all that far fetched.

I am sure the troops & ships commanders will support it, or at least liked the idea...but politically was "very dangerous" to support north american colonies independence if you have many "powerfull" possesions (with manpower & own resources, as we can see in the beggining of the 1800's to fight Spain for independence and ver far away from)......

This was not the case of France, since he had not great possesions at America.
