Subject: Question about Chirles Douglas' innovation

Can you help me with next Question
Chirles Douglas implemented some innovations in naval gunnery at the Battle of The Saintes (1782).
one of them became wide-spread - I mean flintlocks on naval guns. But also he put some changes into the system of fastening gun-carrieges to ship's side so as with his arrangement arc of fire for each broadside gun was of eight rhumbs against four rhumbs for conventional arrangement.
According to Brian Tunstall at the Battle of The Saintes there were three ships provided by Douglas' arrangement.
But I find no mention about use Douglas' equipment futher. Moreover it seems that Douglas' idea were abandoned. For instance Victory after timbering had conventional arrangement.
If the idea were really abandoned what were the reasons for the decision?
