The visit to Sweden actually took place in 1816 and was one stage of a lengthy mission to London, Paris, Hamburg and Russia as well. It was headed by Joseph Bokty, the Swedish consul in Alexandria. Ismail "Gibraltar" in Western sources was Ismail Jabal Tariq, a close connection of Egyptian Governor Mehmed Ali and then commander of the Egyptian Navy.

Durand Viel in Campagnes navales de Mohammed Aly et d’Ibrahim, vol 1, p 441 says the ship purchased in Sweden was "transformée" (transformed) in London which suggests major alterations. The only Swedish frigate sold about this time was Thetis in 1818 but I thought Swedish warships were all sold for scrapping. I would expect the sale of a Swedish warship to Egypt to be recorded in the Swedish archives and in other diplomatic correspondence too.
