PS Fernández Duro does not give details of the fleet in action. He says only that at the beginning of 1675 the Spanish force near Messina consisted of 22 ships, 19 galleys and 16 armed tartans (p. 107). He gives the Spanish strength at the battle of 11 February as 20 ships: 6 for the first three hours until joined by 14 more and 15 galleys (pp. 109-110).
