I've been a water ski instructor for Club Med for the past two years and have spent the last year and a half instructing for the Club in Cancun, Mexico. It has been great but I need a change of scenery (the women and tequila have been fun but I need a break!!). I was on the Western Washington University Tournament Water Ski Team from '94-'98 where I competed in the usual 3 event tournaments and while I was in Cancun our ski team performed weekly barefoot shows and ski shows. If anyone has any information on available water ski intructor openings feel free to e-mail me. Thanks.

Subject: Any use an inflatable as a ski boat?

Date Posted: 06:39:28 06/06/06 Tue
(d198-53-222-37.abhsia.telus.net/198.53.222.37)

My nephew has a large sport utility vehicle, a Hummer H2, that he pulls his boat behind. He has been convinced by his wife to dump the boat and get a travel trailer(caravan) as they are now parents. They do mostly wake boarding and a bit of skiing.
He has found an inflatable boat, a 14' Zodiac model that can accomodate up to a 60hp/40kw engine. It weighs about 250lbs which is about half what the military style rigid inflatables start at.This can be carried on the roof of his H2 and still pull the trailer, thus solving his problem(we hope). Zodiac claims the boat will pull an adult male skier.
My question is, has anyone here ever skied off such a setup, or seen it done? A 250lb boat with a 250lb motor and another 250lbs of pilot and gear pulling a 200lb skier. It seems to work in theory, especially with one of the newer high torgue 4 stroke engines but all I can see when I think of this, is an image of a bouncing dingy and a floundering skier. Any thoughts? Is the inflatable ski boat practical or just a sales pitch by the manufacturer?

Please can anyone answer some of the questions on the psychological demands of waterskiing. Thanks for your time.
Are there any specific rules to British system of racing (i.e. different from USA system?)
What is the length of race in time?
What is the length of time between races/heats for skier (i.e. is there a lot of waiting around between events)?
Time on ‘blocks’ before start flag/or is it just start when ready?
Level of impact judge scoring causes on skier – are discrepancies common?
How much does weather impact performance, wind, temp, waves?
Do athletes fear injury, or do high level skiers have to have learned to cope with such fears in order to reach that level?
Are races head to head or is it personal times like downhill skiing?
What are the biggest threats to pre race composure?
What are the biggest threats to during race composure (i.e. negative thoughts?)
How fatigued are racers mentally and physically after a race?
How common are penalties at 15-20 yrs old elite level?
How important is communication between skier and boat driver and observer?
Is there usually family/coach present, can skier speak to coach between events?
Do skiers get distracted by score boards etc during race or are they unaware of scores till after each event or after whole competition?
Do elite skiers generally use mental skills? (Visualisation, self talk, concentration skills, relaxation routines? Self coach journals?)

I have a hockey coach from school that is saying that I didn't work out this summer because all I did was waterski and that was nothing and should of been doing weights.( which I did do also along with speed training). I belong to a local ski team and ski about 4 or 5 days a week.I think he is wrong and would like to show him some information that can prove to him that waterskiing can build muscles and be a fun way to workout and exercise.

We need your video adventures for TV

If you filmed your adventure holiday it could be just what we need for a new television travel/adventure show.

Were building a private lake in eastern Idaho.Lots ranging from 5 to 11 acers. There will be 9 to 11 lots. Located near the snake river in a friendly country area. Th e lake will be 2300ft by 300ft 20ft or deeper with two turn islands. The lake will naturaly fill by sub water and kept fresh by a irrigation ditch. It's beutiful quite and best of all you only share it with a few friends. Were looking to build it at a low cost. And if we know in advance we add a private inlet dock on your land, making it easier for you to come home grab a bite to eat and get out on the lake. Prices start a $99,000 to $170,000. Price includes water, your road and gravel for the subbase for your new home and exellent topsoil for landscaping. If you let me know in advance i can arrange for extra gravel to build a above ground walk out basement.

A help request........to all fellow skier!!!!

It's getting colder and it's time to think about moving from the lakes to the snow.....and I'm planning to do it in a big way!!

On 1st March 2002, I plan to travel to Austria with around 80 other slightly stupid people. Our aim will be to ski down 24 of Austria's mountains in 2 days. That's a total of 130km (apparently, that's the same distance as skiing down Everest....twice). Those of you who ski or snowboard will know that skiing that sort of distance in 2 days is no picnic and it will be pretty hard going.

So, you may ask yourself......"Why.....?!?!?!?"

Well.....it's all to raise money for Scope. For those of you that do not know a lot about the charity please have a look at http://www.scope.org.uk

I aim to raise at least £1200 for Scope, so if you can help in any way please get in touch or have a look at http://www.whitepeaks2002.co.uk for more info.

Thanks

Well done design suite for the coverage of the Open in the UK, they had live comentary over their own chat room and results went on straight away. By far the best coverage of any water ski event. Maybe World Pub should speak to them to cover their events. We all know that the word cup is finished for good, all we have left is the Pro Tour. Pro tour events are first class events, all they need is the sort of profesional web site that the open had and they are made for ever. Im going to post this on every waterski message board I can find. I sat on line from 9am untill 9.30pm, sad but it was like I was at the event. When I asked a question, it was answered straight away. They had judges, skiers and sponsors on line talking!!

Position of PASS on the Masters Tournament

As members of the Professional Association of Slalom Skiers (PASS) it is important to clarify our position and reasoning that culminated in seven of our members having their invitations to the 42nd Masters withdrawn by Mr. Larry Meddock tournament director.

In October 2000 the members of PASS collectively entered into an agreement that establishes the standards for our participation in Professional / World Cup events. One such threshold is minimum prize money of $16,000 US.

To date all current North American professional events have matched or exceeded this threshold. It is our duty and responsibility to uphold our agreement with promoters who have seen the value that men’s slalom brings to the Fans and sponsors of their events. The corporate benefit derived from professional men’s slalom skiing far exceeds our $16,000 minimum.

We wish to assert that the sole criterion in our decision was the failure of the men’s slalom purse to comply with our collective bargaining agreement. However as an industry driver and Fan favorite event we are concerned with our relative position on the prize money schedule:

Men’s Ski Fly $23,250
Women’s Ski Fly $15,750
Men’s Tricks $10,750
Women’s Tricks $10,750
Women’s Slalom $10,750
Men’s Slalom $10,750

We regret that, despite our negotiation efforts, our unity and commitment to our stated principals resulted in the withdrawal of our invitations. We respect the tournament’s history and Correct Craft’s commitment to competitive water-skiing over the years. It is imperative that our solidarity not be misconstrued as ill will towards Correct Craft or the Masters.

It is a goal of PASS to nurture and assist the growth of the sport in all aspects. The professional arena is a substantial part of this growth effort. It is at the professional event that heroes are made and legendary battles are won. The athlete–fan relationship opens the dream in all of us to pursue our vision and strive to achieve our full potential.

An invitation to compete in the tournament that has the most stringent selection criteria is a goal of all PASS members, and once achieved is not haphazardly jeopardized. The adherence to our principles and collective agreement is nonetheless too important to compromise.

Thanks.

The International rules state, that if you hit the right-hand gate buoy with your ski on either side the gates count.

Has anyone had any experience of this 2000 Slalom Gate rules?

Maybe you thought you where in and where judged out? Did you hit the gate buoy and where you judges to have missed your gates?

or did you think that you'd missed the gates and where judged in?

What are skier feelings about this rule?

I've recently been judges both ways. One weekend I hit the buoy on the outside and was judged in, the following I did the same and was judged out?

Let me know your thoughts

Thanks

Zej

Hello! My name is Ray at Ski Boat Specialties. As a long-time Boarder and barefooter myself, I found very little out there in the specialty market that catered to our niche. So I began designing and manufacturing specialized ski boat and truck accessories especially for us. Our products have been quoted by the likes of Billy Nichols (World Endurance Record Holder) and Keith St. Onge (world Trick Record Holder) as:

....(having very unique products),

.... (never seen before),

.... (are much needed in the Waterskiing market)

I hope you will find them interesting and desirable. Check out our site at:

We welcome your comments and suggestions.

Thank you --Ray

Get in touch with Andy and sign up for the new monday night tournament - (now on thursdays) held at Hanover International Hotel and Club (formerly Kirtons Farm) At the Battleday waterski school.

The idea this year is teams of 4 or 5 with mixed ability with the best 3 scores taking for the points. Get in touch soon as we are only about 4 weeks away from the first stop.

If anyone has any ideas on how we can improve the rules please let me know.
