Subject: Explanation of MBA 8622 webpage problems

The server that we use, www-cba.gsu.edu, for the MBA 8622 webpage has been unavailable since the Friday, September 22. Hackers used the server to launch a "denial of service" attack on Thursday, September 21, and G.S.U.'s IT security took the server offline for external use the following day. This means the server can be accessed by on-campus users, but can not be accessed by external networks/users. Due to mis-communication, the College of Business was not told of the attack, or the decision to take the server offline, until Monday. The College of Business IT group is now working with the university to determine when the server can be brought back online. We hope to have the server available later this week. Thus, anyone off-campus users have been unable to access the site. Also, we cannot be sure when the server will be available.

Some partial solutions:

1. You can access the site from any networked computer on the GSU campus. This includes all computer labs, and virtually all offices.

2. You can access the sample mid-terms (3) here in the electronic bulletin board. I posted the Summer 2000 mid-term last week and there are two previous mid-terms posted near the end of June 2000, so you need to look in the older messages.

3. If you need material (e.g. mini-case or end of chapter problem answers) to study for the mid-term, please post your message in the conference room at voy.com. I will increase my monitoring of the conference room. Also, if someone posts suggested answers to the sample mid-term, I will review and correct the suggested answers.

I guess we should think of this as fun. It is my first server used in an attack. I was so jealous of people who got the Melissa virus. I apologize for the inconvenience and will try to keep you informed.
