The equity accounts listed vary by place of incorporation and line of business. As a minimum companies will have a common stock account (representing the net proceeds of stock sold) and a retained earnings account (total of all net income minus total of all dividends paid). If the firm has a par value, the common stock account would be divided into two accounts, the common stock account representing the par value of outstanding stock and the additional piad in capital account representing funds raised above the par value (e.g. sell a stock for $10 with a par value of $1 implies $1 to common stock account and $9 to paid in capital account). Some states also have a treasury stock account representing previously sold stock that has been repurchased by the company.

Note, companies may use names different that those listed above. Additional Paid In Capital may be paid in capital, capital surplus, capital, or a few other names. Also, some companies and industries would have other accounts listed in equity such as preferred stock and reserve accounts (usually in insurance firms and banks).
