LEARN TO BE AN ENTREPRENEUR,
GET A $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP!!
Deadline to apply: 5pm, July 10, 2000

Ever thought about starting your own business or being more of an entrepreneur where you work now? One of the best ways to learn how is to work with and watch an entrepreneur in action. We=ll give you the chance to do that, to earn academic credit toward graduation, and to obtain a $1,000 scholarship for your efforts!

Each fall semester, the Department of Management at Georgia State University offers both graduate and undergraduate students a field study course in which they will work with Atlanta entrepreneurs who are starting, expanding, changing, or turning around their businesses. You might help founders turn their ideas into a viable business, determine the feasibility of offering a new product or service in an existing firm, construct a web page, improve the cost accounting system, plan a new marketing effort, or many other things. You=ll also have a chance to observe owners, founders, and entrepreneurial managers at close range.

Approximately 20 students will be accepted into the course each fall semester. To take advantage of the opportunity this fall, please submit by July 10, 2000: (1) a current rJsumJ of high quality so it can be given to companies looking for Field Study students, (2) a statement of no more than two double-spaced typed pages describing why you are interested in taking Entrepreneurship Field Study and how you believe a business would benefit from having you work with them for a semester, and (3) the following information: your name, student number, address, telephone number, e-mail address, what entrepreneurship courses you have taken, whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student, and what program you are in (i.e., BBA, MBA, MS, etc), and your major or concentration. That information may be entered on the AStudent Form@ of our web page (www.gsu.edu/~mgtbbo/entrepreneur) or delivered by hand, post, fax, or e-mail, to:

E-mail: BenOviatt@gsu.edu
In person: Room 1009, J. Mack Robinson College of Business

We will notify you by late July whether you are accepted into the course. If you are, then you will be authorized to register for the course during Phase II registration for the fall semester. Sign up for MGT 8420, Field Study in Entrepreneurship, if you are a graduate student, or MGT4505, Entrepreneurship Field Study, if you are an undergraduate student.

The class will meet only three or four times. You will work with an entrepreneur 8 to 10 hours each week during the fall semester. If you work and go to school, you may need to make special arrangements with your employer.

You=ll be responsible for developing with the entrepreneur a plan for your field study. Near the end of the semester, you=ll report on your experiences. Your contributions to the business and your learning will be evaluated by both the instructor and the entrepreneur you work with. If you receive a grade of B or higher for the course, you will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Scholarships are supported by the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership of Kansas City, the Georgia State University Society of Entrepreneurs and by fees paid by the companies you work with.

For further information, please call or e-mail Dr. Oviatt.
