I had my gall bladder removed in March 2003, before that the gall attacks ended me in the emergency room with acute pain. They found my GB was full of stones, and the stones were infecting the GB causing liver enezmes to rise from 40 to 550 (which is bad). I was told that my GB had extensive scaring and being next to the liver it could start scarring the liver and worst if a gallstone got caught in the pancreas, I am good as dead. So I made the decision after 5 gall attacks to remove it.
Now that my GB is removed I no longer have gall attacks but... I do have gas after I eat, belching also, some diaherra, but not bad. Mostly cause by oils and fat. I try to stay away from oils, greasy and spicy foods, soy milk tends to be better than cow's milk, peanuts are really bad, and some meats are bad, along with things that are difficult to digest. Afterall, it was the bile from the gall bladder that assisted in digestion.
Overall, a lifestyle change from french fries to baked potatoes, from steaks to tofu.

I read this string before the operation and hoped that I wouldn't have a similar horror story to share. I feel very fortunate to have no complications to report after having my gallbladder removed. Perhaps being a 52-year-old male in excellent health has a lot to do with it. I'm very pleased with my decision to have that bag of stones removed.
My operation was on 2/04/04 after my one and only gallstone attack sent me to the emergency room less than an hour after the new year began. I decided it made no sense to risk another attack and possible liver or pancreas damage. Everything turned out better than I thought it would. I was back to work in a week. I had only mild cramps for a couple days after the operation, but that was due to the liquid diet and the interruption it caused in the flow of solids. The cramps went away when my bowels started moving again. I have had no diarrhea even after eating a couple slices of greasy cheese pizza. I'm sure I can eat three slices without a problem and that's all it takes to satisfy my weekly pizza addiction.
If you are diagnosed with gallstones and are told to expect more attacks in the future, I suggest having your gallbladder removed after it has recovered from an infection. It took almost three weeks for my gallbladder to feel like it was no longer infected because I wasn't willing to take Cipro to speed things up. I was fortunate that the operation date was only a month from the attack and was very careful about what I ate until it was gone. Good riddance!

I have a bad gallbladder I am sure. But the high blood pressure I have to put up with the pain from this, will kill me if I do not get it out. Anyone else have high blood pressure with the gallbladder attacks. The pain is not too bad, but the 220 over 119 is what is giving me a headache.

I'm 24, and I'm going in to have my gallbladder removed on June 18, 2004. I have a history of high blood pressure, and while for the most part it's normal now, it's not uncommon for my blood pressure to rise during an attack. It's the stress and panic from the pain which does this, and often does result in a headache. I don't know if you'll be able to get your gallbladder out without your blood pressure getting under control, but I'd certainly look into it if I were you. I know from personal experience that the pain is insane, and it's ruining my life. Will post after the surgery on Friday to let everyone know the outcome.

I had my Gallbladder out Feb 2003 and it was diseased and everything was fabulous for about 6 months and the pain has come back! After going through more test to figure out what is causing the pain no one can figure it out! I'm a 17 year girl who's very active in dance and Cheer so being out of shape can't be a factor, But the pain is driving me crazy

I had my gall bladder removed on August 13th, 2004. I didn't have gallstones, my gall bladder just wasn't functioning. For the first month, every once in a while I would get a pain in my side like I did from before I had my gall bladder removed. But now, 2 months after my surgery, I'm having bad stabbing pains in my side, just as bad as before I had the stupid thing removed, and I don't know what it is. I know that my surgeon told me there is a chance that I could still have the pains after my removal, but it wouldn't be a medical problem. So if my gall bladder is gone, but I'm still having pains, what is it? They just started a couple of days ago, and weren't too bad, I just thought I ate something I shouldn't have. I also have IBS, so it's hard to tell whats wrong with me sometimes. But the pain has been worsening. I plan on going to the dr. if this continues or worsens, but I'm just afraid that they will do tests and find nothing wrong, and think I'm just crazy. I just hope the pain will go away so I don't have to deal with all of that.

I have been through everything that everyone is putting up on this web site and I can honestly tell you all that no matter what the doctors tell you that they feel may work, it is always temporary! That is the problem with this strange disease or problem. I have been to hundreds of gastroenterologist and they don't know! They are guessing on us and they don't have a clue what we all are going through, after the removal of our gallbladder! But I have seen over the years of talking to people that all of us have alot of things in common. Starting with the removal of our gallbladder. Next, the cramps and pain ect.... It is enough of us out there to stand up and demand answers, before others wind up like us! Each day, more and more people are going under the knife getting their gallbladder removed, with the false sense of reality that there are agreat deal of us not coming out of this ordeal unscaved! Just as there are demands for more research for cancer victims and Ms victims,
there should be gallbladder surgery gone wrong victims demanding answers and more treatments to all these symptoms after the fact! I can tell you that I am frustrated as hell! I have been given vioxx, zoloft, bentyl, kutrase, levsin, paxil cr and metamucil, just to name a few. Don't believe everything your doctor tells you. Some of these drugs have really bad side effects that may be just as bad as the symptoms!

I agree 100%. We should all band together to raise awareness about the fact that doctors withhold information and lie about gall bladder removal. They say you don't need your gall bladder which is totally untrue - just because you can live without it doesn't mean you don't NEED it!!! Also, they hardly ever tell you what to expect after the surgery. I complained to my surgeon and he got tired of hearing from me and told me he thought I needed a boyfriend... how's that for compassion!! Sometimes surgery is necessary, but way too many surgeries are performed now that laparascopic surgery is so readily available. Doctors need to back off on throwing people on the operating table so quickly AND make sure they give us proper information to make informed decisions.

I had my gb out about 1 1/2 years ago. Ever since then I have severe constipation, cramping and have been unable to loose the weight. I have tried every laxitive on the market and even some that weren't. The doctors think that I am crazy and tell me that it is all in my head. The pain is unreal and the best way that I know how to describe it is that it's worse than labor. I have never had problems like this in the past it all started after the surgery. I don't know how these doctors can think that I am making this up. You can't just not shit! It is going to come out one way or another. I am stuck and nothing is working now. Has anyone experienced this problem? Please I am desperate I am going to go through some therapy for my rectum and if it doesn't work my only option then is a cholostomy bag. I am 21 and a mother and wife. I don't want to put myself or my family through that. Any advise would be well appreciated.

I also agree with the symptoms after removal of my gallblader! Its been 8 yrs and i still get these strange pains where my gallblader was and sometimes they are so bad the pain wakes me up just like i'm having an attack all over again! Why is that? I had my galbladder taken out when i was 17 yrs old. i had galstones an my pancreas was infected,so i had surgery.i have a huge scar on my stomach where it looks like the dr took a butter knife and cut me open. im 36 now, and have been experiencing terrible pain in my stomach to the point when i have a bowl movement i am throwing up at same time.i cant hold it, if i have to go, then i have to go.i sweat profusely, when im having these pains and throwing up.so i dont get out like i used to because i cant just start throwing up on the bathroom floor as im on toilet!i wanted to know is this something that has to do with the removal and does anyone have a name for this? shannon

I had my gall bladder removed in Sept of 2005 and I am experiencing the same thing. I had gallstones and one of the stones had become stuck which caused soo much pain. They removed my gallbladder but I haven't been the same. It has been 5 months now and I am starting to experience pain that is identical to the gallstone attacks. I feel like I'm having a heart attack. I was told I had IBS also. I have been to the doctor several times and had every test imaginable run on me and they say they can't find what is wrong. I can't function anymore. The pain is unreal. I have no energy and I can't even press on the surgery area without triggering painful attacks. I feel for you all and I know what you're going through. It is frustrating to be told "they can't find what is wrong". I know something is definitely not right.

I had my gallbladder out 7/5/05, its been 7 months and about jan i started having sickness to my stomach, then went to swelling of the abdomen and pain, then ontop of the abdomin swelling the rest of my body swells up and i get a pressure like feeling in my head, and i get pains where my gallbladder use to be. Did you ever find out what was going on with you? I am a 30 year old female, i have had a endoscopy, mri, catscans, colonoscopy, no doctor has an answer, i have been out of work since feb, i am getting to the point i dont want to eat, cause thats the only time i feel good.
