I had mine removed in August 2003. To this day I will never forget what I went thru before and after....pain, nausea, diahrreaaaa!!! Good news tho, I have good days and bad days but it will GET BETTER.. It takes approximately one year, but your body will adjust to missing that organ. Give it time and enjoy the good days, even with my bad days I realize they are not as awful as before the surgery.

I had my gallbadder taken out in 1993 when I was 18 years old and for me it hasn't got any better. I still haven't found the trigger foods and I get tired of worrying about what to order when I'm out with my friends and then trying to stay near a bathroom after the meal. And how long will it take for the diarrea to kick in? For some reason it's always after the resteraunt in the car in traffic or for the first 10 minutes of the movie I've been wanting to see. I think I could just have water and it would do it. And could anyone tell me how it gets through so fast?

I always get the same symptoms especially in the car my husband tells me it is all in my head and I have found no single food that affects it some days are great some are terrible I have tried fiber therapy and immodium I also found a reason why it may be happening the sphincter of oddi which malfunctions when the gall bladder is removed check it out n the web I have been living with this for over four years the dr says I should up my fiber in my diet I have tried everything now I have no med ins so I have to just live on immodium I guess constipation is better than diarrea

My mother and brother both had the surgery, doctors dont seem to know what is goning on. They have done test and everything. I hear alot about the dumping thing, but they dont have that prtoblem, just bloating, and cant loose weight, no matter what they try. Now i know they are not alone. Is there an answer out there?

One November 17, 2006 I had my gallbladder removed after 2 years of sickness and pain. I immediately felt before but a week later was having bowel problems. Not the normal diahrea I was expecting after having the gallbladder removed but severe constipation. When I contacted the doctor to find out if they disconnected my bowels during the surgery, I was told that this was common because my body had been through a major surgery and that the medications I was given could cause constipation. Stool softeners and laxatives don't seem to help so I resorted to glycerin suppositories. That finally did give me some relief. Three weeks after the surgery and I am in pain from the constipation. Nothing seems to work including the suppositories. I can take laxatives by mouth but what usually happens is that the laxative works the upper areas of the the colon but I am still blocked in the lower portion of the colon so I tend to experience severe pain, cramping, nausea, etc. from the laxative. The blockage gets so bad that I am sick for days. At this point, I would welcome diahrea after every meal!

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any suggestions?

I understand exactly what your talking about. I had my gallbladder removed 3 months ago. Up until about a month ago, everything was great. Now, in the last month, I have been experiencing pain, bloating, cramps, and lots of constipation. I even went to the ER about 10 days ago because I was so miserable. All they did was take Xrays, catscan, and then give me an enema. I feel sick all the time, and when I do have a bowel movement, which is seldom, I am in pain and cramps and it has not been normal for the last month. I have spoken to my doctor several times and been told fiber, fiber, fiber. But that does not work. If anyone else has a solution, please also let me know. If I have to live the rest of my life like this, it is going to be awful! HELP!!!
