My problem is that to this day I still have diarhea everytime I eat i'm running to the bathroom within 5 minutes. Does anyone else still have this problem? What can be done about it?

Cannot specifically answer your question, I am trying to avoid having GB taken out but I have come across Psyillium husk which may help you with the diarrhea. It helps bind bowel movements most health food stores have it some supermarkets too. Just put a full tablespoon or two in with your food (cereal is a good way for breakfast) mix in with other mashed type foods. Psyillium also helps to regulate and may cause more movements for people with poor bowel movements. Anyway I stress it MAY help.

My gallbladder was removed in June of '03 due to a severe
attack that led to emergency surgery. Twenty-one stones were enclosed. I've searced the 'net, and cannot find the answer to this question: If the body requires the gallbladder to store bile to break up fats prior to intestinal discharge, what results from the bile not being stored? Can anyone explain?

A good and cost effective suggestion .please do try ripe bananas too and do get your stool examined microscopically since it may show up the causative organism of your diarrhoea .
try to eat small meals, easily digestible foods, avoid fried and spicy foods.

>what are liver inzimes and could they make you break out in a rash run a fever of 103.3 and very sick at your stomach. The reason I ask my boyfriend got very sick last week He ached all over had a fever of 103.3 and had a rash all over him. He said that when the sun hit the rash that it burned real bad and it looked like little blisters except for one on his back and it was about as big around as a half of dollar and had a scab on it. He said that his joints hurt him so bad that it was unreal. When he would try to walk or move he would move like he was 100 years old.He went to the hospital they did blood work and all they found was his liver enzimes was real high and his sugar was low. Could liver inzimes cause him to have this problem.

Sounds like your boyfriend has an illness or disease. Enzymes are manufactured by the Liver to help process foods and improve your blood etc. When the liver is diseased the liver starts to go haywire. Just a guess but Hepatitus strains tend to have the problems you've mentioned..

good luck.

I just had my gallbladder removed March 2004 and as I can see I'm not alone with the diareah and stomach cramps and sweating. I'm finding that if I eat fiber and bananas it helps some. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it all. I hope it gets better. I take prilosec at night because some times bile comes up when I'm laying down. I have alot of gas and bloating and I seem to eat less than I did before it seems I'm fuller faster. The doctor said I had a fatty liver??? what does that mean???

i too have had my gb out 5/2004 i have had some loose bowel movements and constipation. i have been reading a very helpful book called the liver cleansing diet by dr sandra cabot. i did this diet before the surgery and have begun it again as i have had irregular bowel movements and feel tired still. when i was on it i had regular bowel movements every morning. it is very important to watch what you are putting in your body. fats and sugars are very harmful to some one w/o a gb to help break it down. now your liver has to do all the work. if you can read the book as it explains all about fatty liver. i hope this was able to help.

I am miserable and have been for over 8 years now. Doctors don't seem to know what it is. I just know all the symptoms started after my gallbladder was removed in 1991. I can't sleep or eat without fear and pain! It has taken over my life! I hate it and as you said, no one wants to believe that you are in such severe pain. You name it, I have tried it. I am still looking for answers. I don't know what I have.....

Had my GB out 3/2/05. After about 10 days, I had problems. I went to my herbalist and she recommended Psyllium and Intestinal Sooth and Build. Within about 10 minutes of taking the Psyllium, the gut gurgling stopped and I have not had any problems with diarrea, bloating or gas. I eat lots of veggies and lean meats, salads, (basically low carb) etc and was told I wasn't getting enough fiber. Problem solved. Try to cut back on soda's especially diet. I'm sure GNC carries these products also. Hope this helps.

Hello All,
I ran across this page after searching for some answers on why a year after my Gallbladder was removed do I have just as many problems???
I also can eat healthy salads...no dressing at all "for those who say the fatty dressings are the cause" And I am running to the bathroom 5 minutes after eating a plain blan salad...stomach cramps I'd say that rank right up there with an actual gallbladder attack!
Now I go through this routine 3 times a day....and sometimes I'm running for more than one trip too the restroom from one meal.
I mean these cramps make you sweat and rather die then deal with it while the bowels move.
And of course meats and dairy products have the same effect as the plain veggies.
I wonder if this is just what we have too live with or if it is a major problem with some of us who suffer this!
Anyone with any new info please let me know...
I also have the belching and bloated gassy feelings as well.
E-mail me at christy_medsker@sbcglobal.net
Thanks for any help!

I would suggest seeing a Naturopath, these are problems you are probably going to have to come to terms with by adjusting your lifestyle and diet. Also please note that gallstones are also produced within the liver not just the gallbladder. Have a look at flushing sites this may also help, but a naturopath will point you in a similar direction as well suggest diet changes or supplements. Some people find that by adding bile salts to their food it helps their digestion. Note by removing a gallbladder you now have a tiny fraction of the bile you used to have when you ate certain types of food. Your stomach is effectively Acidic and bile is alkaline and is used to offset the acid from the stomach, this increases interaction increases with different food types.

I am 37 and having my gallbladder removed on July 14th. I had my first gallbladder attack about 7 years ago, a few days after giving birth...not as bad as childbirth, but a close second. I have an attack/episode about every three months, almost like clockwork...gallbladder goes bananas for about a week, then settles down and is okay. The pain and discomfort have been pretty steady for about the past three weeks (not sleeping well either). I do not have stones, so my insurance company keeps putting the brakes on surgery. I have reduced ejection fraction, bilary sludge and tons of bilary pain. I'm hoping that I experience immediate pain relief (as with appendectomy). I'm having a lot of cramping and having to run to the toilet now anyway, so if the gallbladder pain goes away, I figure I'll still be ahead. Interesting to read different experiences. Hope mine is one of the better ones.

How did your operation go? I am 30 and have just found out that my gallbladder has to go. I have been having problems with gas, vomiting, etc. ,since I had my daughter in 1993. I always came up with 101 reasons why I had these problems. It wasn't until this pass December when I realize something was wrong. I started having the really bad pains in my upper right side. I did not get time to go to the doctor until the first of June. Plus, at the time the pain started it only last a couple of days and would be a few weeks before it happen again. But for the past 6 weeks I can't get much sleep. I be okay one day and the next I am a wreck. I have stop eating any thing I thought would cause the attacks but that hasn't helped. I had an ultrasound, scan, and scope. They wanted to rule out anything that could cause these problems. I have a polpy in the neck of the gall bladder. Plus, when they did the test that made the gallbladder contract I almost threw up all over the nurse. How are you doing? How did you get relief from this whole mess. I go to see the surgery tomorrow. To get everything set up for my operation. Please let me know if any one can help me. I did not get any sleep last night because of the pain. Thank You! I had my gallbladder removed 11 years ago at age 21. For 10 years after that I had the same problem with stomach cramps, having to bathroom after every meal regardless of what I ate, etc. After several medications, my doctor put me on Zoloft which has calmed down my stomach (for whatever reason) and I can finally have an fairly "normal" life. I don't have to work my schedule around what I will eat and where I can go to the bathroom. I still have some gas and bloating but at least the stomach cramps are gone.

I had my gall bladder removed in March 2003, before that the gall attacks ended me in the emergency room with acute pain. They found my GB was full of stones, and the stones were infecting the GB causing liver enezmes to rise from 40 to 550 (which is bad). I was told that my GB had extensive scaring and being next to the liver it could start scarring the liver and worst if a gallstone got caught in the pancreas, I am good as dead. So I made the decision after 5 gall attacks to remove it.
Now that my GB is removed I no longer have gall attacks but... I do have gas after I eat, belching also, some diaherra, but not bad. Mostly cause by oils and fat. I try to stay away from oils, greasy and spicy foods, soy milk tends to be better than cow's milk, peanuts are really bad, and some meats are bad, along with things that are difficult to digest. Afterall, it was the bile from the gall bladder that assisted in digestion.
Overall, a lifestyle change from french fries to baked potatoes, from steaks to tofu.
Good luck to all of you.
John

I read this string before the operation and hoped that I wouldn't have a similar horror story to share. I feel very fortunate to have no complications to report after having my gallbladder removed. Perhaps being a 52-year-old male in excellent health has a lot to do with it. I'm very pleased with my decision to have that bag of stones removed.

My operation was on 2/04/04 after my one and only gallstone attack sent me to the emergency room less than an hour after the new year began. I decided it made no sense to risk another attack and possible liver or pancreas damage. Everything turned out better than I thought it would. I was back to work in a week. I had only mild cramps for a couple days after the operation, but that was due to the liquid diet and the interruption it caused in the flow of solids. The cramps went away when my bowels started moving again. I have had no diarrhea even after eating a couple slices of greasy cheese pizza. I'm sure I can eat three slices without a problem and that's all it takes to satisfy my weekly pizza addiction.

If you are diagnosed with gallstones and are told to expect more attacks in the future, I suggest having your gallbladder removed after it has recovered from an infection. It took almost three weeks for my gallbladder to feel like it was no longer infected because I wasn't willing to take Cipro to speed things up. I was fortunate that the operation date was only a month from the attack and was very careful about what I ate until it was gone. Good riddance!

I have a bad gallbladder I am sure. But the high blood pressure I have to put up with the pain from this, will kill me if I do not get it out. Anyone else have high blood pressure with the gallbladder attacks. The pain is not too bad, but the 220 over 119 is what is giving me a headache.

I'm 24, and I'm going in to have my gallbladder removed on June 18, 2004. I have a history of high blood pressure, and while for the most part it's normal now, it's not uncommon for my blood pressure to rise during an attack. It's the stress and panic from the pain which does this, and often does result in a headache. I don't know if you'll be able to get your gallbladder out without your blood pressure getting under control, but I'd certainly look into it if I were you. I know from personal experience that the pain is insane, and it's ruining my life. Will post after the surgery on Friday to let everyone know the outcome.

I had my gall bladder removed on August 13th, 2004. I didn't have gallstones, my gall bladder just wasn't functioning. For the first month, every once in a while I would get a pain in my side like I did from before I had my gall bladder removed. But now, 2 months after my surgery, I'm having bad stabbing pains in my side, just as bad as before I had the stupid thing removed, and I don't know what it is. I know that my surgeon told me there is a chance that I could still have the pains after my removal, but it wouldn't be a medical problem. So if my gall bladder is gone, but I'm still having pains, what is it? They just started a couple of days ago, and weren't too bad, I just thought I ate something I shouldn't have. I also have IBS, so it's hard to tell whats wrong with me sometimes. But the pain has been worsening. I plan on going to the dr. if this continues or worsens, but I'm just afraid that they will do tests and find nothing wrong, and think I'm just crazy. I just hope the pain will go away so I don't have to deal with all of that.

>Don't for one moment believe those doctors whom tell you that it is something you ate! I have been through everything that everyone is putting up on this web site and I can honestly tell you all that no matter what the doctors tell you that they feel may work, it is always temporary! That is the problem with this strange disease or problem. I have been to hundreds of gastroenterologist and they don't know! They are guessing on us and they don't have a clue what we all are going through, after the removal of our gallbladder! But I have seen over the years of talking to people that all of us have alot of things in common. Starting with the removal of our gallbladder. Next, the cramps and pain ect.... It is enough of us out there to stand up and demand answers, before others wind up like us! Each day, more and more people are going under the knife getting their gallbladder removed, with the false sense of reality that there are agreat deal of us not coming out of this ordeal unscaved! Just as there are demands for more research for cancer victims and Ms victims,
there should be gallbladder surgery gone wrong victims demanding answers and more treatments to all these symptoms after the fact! I can tell you that I am frustrated as hell! I have been given vioxx, zoloft, bentyl, kutrase, levsin, paxil cr and metamucil, just to name a few. Don't believe everything your doctor tells you. Some of these drugs have really bad side effects that may be just as bad as the symptoms!

I agree 100%. We should all band together to raise awareness about the fact that doctors withhold information and lie about gall bladder removal. They say you don't need your gall bladder which is totally untrue - just because you can live without it doesn't mean you don't NEED it!!! Also, they hardly ever tell you what to expect after the surgery. I complained to my surgeon and he got tired of hearing from me and told me he thought I needed a boyfriend... how's that for compassion!! Sometimes surgery is necessary, but way too many surgeries are performed now that laparascopic surgery is so readily available. Doctors need to back off on throwing people on the operating table so quickly AND make sure they give us proper information to make informed decisions.

I had my gb out about 1 1/2 years ago. Ever since then I have severe constipation, cramping and have been unable to loose the weight. I have tried every laxitive on the market and even some that weren't. The doctors think that I am crazy and tell me that it is all in my head. The pain is unreal and the best way that I know how to describe it is that it's worse than labor. I have never had problems like this in the past it all started after the surgery. I don't know how these doctors can think that I am making this up. You can't just not shit! It is going to come out one way or another. I am stuck and nothing is working now. Has anyone experienced this problem? Please I am desperate I am going to go through some therapy for my rectum and if it doesn't work my only option then is a cholostomy bag. I am 21 and a mother and wife. I don't want to put myself or my family through that. Any advise would be well appreciated.

I had my gall bladder removed in Sept of 2005 and I am experiencing the same thing. I had gallstones and one of the stones had become stuck which caused soo much pain. They removed my gallbladder but I haven't been the same. It has been 5 months now and I am starting to experience pain that is identical to the gallstone attacks. I feel like I'm having a heart attack. I was told I had IBS also. I have been to the doctor several times and had every test imaginable run on me and they say they can't find what is wrong. I can't function anymore. The pain is unreal. I have no energy and I can't even press on the surgery area without triggering painful attacks. I feel for you all and I know what you're going through. It is frustrating to be told "they can't find what is wrong". I know something is definitely not right.

I had mine removed in August 2003. To this day I will never forget what I went thru before and after....pain, nausea, diahrreaaaa!!! Good news tho, I have good days and bad days but it will GET BETTER.. It takes approximately one year, but your body will adjust to missing that organ. Give it time and enjoy the good days, even with my bad days I realize they are not as awful as before the surgery.

I had my gallbadder taken out in 1993 when I was 18 years old and for me it hasn't got any better. I still haven't found the trigger foods and I get tired of worrying about what to order when I'm out with my friends and then trying to stay near a bathroom after the meal. And how long will it take for the diarrea to kick in? For some reason it's always after the resteraunt in the car in traffic or for the first 10 minutes of the movie I've been wanting to see. I think I could just have water and it would do it. And could anyone tell me how it gets through so fast?

One November 17, 2006 I had my gallbladder removed after 2 years of sickness and pain. I immediately felt before but a week later was having bowel problems. Not the normal diahrea I was expecting after having the gallbladder removed but severe constipation. When I contacted the doctor to find out if they disconnected my bowels during the surgery, I was told that this was common because my body had been through a major surgery and that the medications I was given could cause constipation. Stool softeners and laxatives don't seem to help so I resorted to glycerin suppositories. That finally did give me some relief. Three weeks after the surgery and I am in pain from the constipation. Nothing seems to work including the suppositories. I can take laxatives by mouth but what usually happens is that the laxative works the upper areas of the the colon but I am still blocked in the lower portion of the colon so I tend to experience severe pain, cramping, nausea, etc. from the laxative. The blockage gets so bad that I am sick for days. At this point, I would welcome diahrea after every meal!

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any suggestions?

I understand exactly what your talking about. I had my gallbladder removed 3 months ago. Up until about a month ago, everything was great. Now, in the last month, I have been experiencing pain, bloating, cramps, and lots of constipation. I even went to the ER about 10 days ago because I was so miserable. All they did was take Xrays, catscan, and then give me an enema. I feel sick all the time, and when I do have a bowel movement, which is seldom, I am in pain and cramps and it has not been normal for the last month. I have spoken to my doctor several times and been told fiber, fiber, fiber. But that does not work. If anyone else has a solution, please also let me know. If I have to live the rest of my life like this, it is going to be awful! HELP!!!

I had my gallbladder removed August 2006 and I haven't been the same. I no longer am feverish and sick but the cramps are blindingly, drop to the floor terrible. I don't know what was worse because it seemes everything I do triggers those miserable cramps.

Still, I have a theory. Those cramps usually come from the sphinter of your intestine clamping shut with a quick movement as part of a slight malfunction after surgery. It's not really unhealthy and the surgery to correct it is not considered mandatory.

>Hello fellow sufferers,
I had my gallbladder removed 1 year ago. I am early 50's, was always athletic, in shape etc. I have put on over 30 pounds, have a huge abdomen, and get bloated after eating or drinking anything. It has been tortuous, trying many medicines, diets, etc. Nobody told me anything except to go eat everything and all will return to normal. Well, gues what....nothing is normal! Other problems have developed as well including IBS, hemorroids, difficulty breathing at times, etc. I literally cannot move after eating anything, as if someone put an air-pump in my abdomen. It seems the air put into the abdomen during the Lap surgery, never got out. My abdomen feels like a tightly wrapped watermelon............I am lokking for help, but please, do not offer more BS nutritional supplements and sure fire diets. I am searching for the cause of these problems in an effort to understand what to do as a result. It is no fun livng this way, and even more brutal when I have to travel........HELP, Please!.....nad much appreciation in advance.

I go through the same thing!! My gallbladder was removed almost 9 years ago and still to this day I go through this. For me its eating a meal then the body temperature shoots up and i begin to sweat and cramp, then im off to the bathroom where I feel like death would come as a blessing because along with the lose stools flying out of me at warp speed I also get vomiting! Gotta get pretty creative at that point because your on the place that you should be vomiting in...I keep a bucket near my toilet at all times. Been tested for everything and still no resolve.
Though im open to any advice

I had the exact same problems as you and was finally put on a medication called Questran. It was like a miracle. I felt as though my life had been saved. I was afraid to go out of the house before because I always needed the bathroom. You can e-mail me at mariajbx069@yahoo.com if you would like more info....Marie

I had mine removed in 2003 after a lifetime
of attacks. I was in pain off and on several months after surgery. They sent the
scope down my throat and everything was fine. Every few months I would get an episode
of pain that only lasted 15 minutes tops. I felt like I had to move my bowels but
it was normal not diarrhea. The last 2 episodes I had (which were a year apart thank
goodness) have been horrific. The last one was just this past Tuesday and I thought
I was going to die. It starts out as the usual gallbladder pain but then it radiates
into my whole stomach area. The pain is like nothing I have ever experienced and
cannot possibly describe the severity. It feels as if something is going to rupture.
I sweat profusely and turn pure white. I have collapsed to the floor during these
last 2. Again it was probably over from start to finish in 30 minutes or less.
Normally when this happens the pain subsides and it's like nothing ever happened.
However this time I have tenderness in the gallbladder area. I have been reading
about the bile duct they leave behind and how it narrows and that is what causes
the pain. Every single person I know that has had their gallbladder out still has
problems. I read where they can put the scope down your throat and put a stent in
the bile duct to widen it but this would have to be done every so often. If you
have any news to share with me I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi I have the same pain that you are describing. My episodes also last about 15 to 20 minutes and the pain is so bad that I have felt like I was going to passout. I have had 4 episodes since November of 2006 which the last three have been only a week apart. And the pain is so bad that after the pain is gone it leaves me so tired that I have to sleep the rest of the day just to gain my energy back. Another question when you go through your pain does it effect your back also?

I had my gallbladder removed in August 2002. It has been a nightmare since. I don't know what happened to my body, it has been downhill ever since.

I developed alopecia universalis 3 months after surgery. Nine months later developed diabetes type 2. Three years later I have atrial fibrillation.

I have never had health problems before the surgery. I wish I had never done it. I had taken a body scan and they told me I had the "little stones that can lodge in the bile ducts so you'd better get it out now". I did what they recommended and look where I'm at now.

If you can live with slight pain, don't take it out. It's there for a reason.

I didn't have stones, my gallbladder just wasn't working...it was down to 21% ejection rate. Anyway, after over a year of constant and unrelenting nausea and pain in my right side, I had it removed. At first, I was very displeased with the results. I was still nauseated and experienced the "dumping" syndrome after every meal unless I ate bland. I also developed anxiety disorder and agoraphobia after over a year of feeling ill and being afraid to even live my life. It has been nearly a year since the surgery now and I am getting better. My diet has expanded again to some of the things I used to love and my emotional state is improving. I am on Questran in pill form and I also take medications for anxiety and depression. I still suffer from occasional indigestion and bowel irregularity but nothing like I once did. It has taken this long for me to decide that I don't regret having the operation. Hopefully, time will continue to make the difference for me and for all of you. If things don't improve, don't be afraid to persist until someone will help you. You shouldn't have to live with such problems.

Hi tomorrow I'm going to have my GB removed. I am shaking while writing to this blog...I am scared.
I hope that there are people who have undergone the procedure and are living a "normal" life...I don't know!
Please if there is anyone who feels good after the surgery you can contact me at corvo@hotmail.com
Again, I am very concerned and scared, after all we are human beings.
C

About 6 mos. ago I had my gallbladder removed and was fine. Three weeks ago I started having nausea, and it doesn't let up. Anyone have this experience?

I had the same problem and suffered for two years with constant diahrea. I was told to go on a low fat diet. It didn't help. Everything and anything I ate caused a severe attack. It was as bad or worse than the original gallbladder attacks. I was finally put on a medication called Questran. it saved my life. What your surgeon or doctor doesn't tell you is that once you get your gall bladder removed, you will have more diarrhea. No one bothers to tell you the bad things that could come from surgery, just the good. But I know how you feel. I don't even like to leave the house because I'm paranoid that I'll be in the middle of the highway driving, no exits near when I have to go, and when I have to go, I have to go NOW. My boyfriend hates it because he likes to go out to eat, and I never want to go, because I know that we'll eat, and then on the way home I'll have to go, or I'll feel sick. I hate it. But see, I was also diagnosed with IBS. I think a lot of people have bowel problems with gall bladder surgery, I dont know if it's just because of the surgery, but quite a lot of people I know have been diagnosed with IBS at the same time as their gall bladder problems. You could talk to your doctor, and see if they have anything you can be put on to control your bowel movements, or at least harden them up. I know they have anti-diarrheal liquid and pills, and I'm sure it would suck, but maybe that would help, especially if you were going to go out to eat.

I had mine out 5 months ago too. I am going through the same thing. I have no energy at all. I always feel like i'm going to faint. I was told i have IBS too and acid reflux. I have massive pains in the area of the surgery and it makes my back hurt too. My stomach is always so swollen i look 5 months pregnant. That is painful in itself. I have the constipation with occasional diarreha. I always feel sick to my stomach. It is extremely painful to have a bowel movement. Doctor's tell me they can't find what's wrong. It's very frustrating. I did read up on celiac disease and wonder if that is the problem. I am going to have my doctor test me for that. It is almost always misdiagnosed as IBS and alot of the symptoms are what i have. It can be triggered when you have abdominal surgery. All i know is this is miserable. I am about to lose my job because i am always so sick and i can't concentrate. I don't know what to do. I wish you well.

>I just had diagnosis of first gallstone. They decided not to do anything at present - and after the experiences i have read on this site - glad i did not opt for surgery. I have the same pattern constipation/ diarrhoea , low mood , fodd reflux , bloating, etc, etc. The doctors tell you it may be high stomach acid. I was on ranitidine and some while ago proton pump inhibitors. THESE CAUSE DEPRESSION. THEY ALSO SCREW UP YOUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM FOR A LONG TIME. If you do have high acid take DGL (deglycyrrhized licorice) - no side effects , no bloating , stops the acid. However, as I say , i think the gallstones are from LOW stomach acid caused by chronic stress. If you suffer stress over a long period, your digestion seems to slow down permanently. You produce less stomach acid and probably other digestive enzymes. I believe this puts a big strain on your liver and gallbladder. So try supplements of multi- enzymes (including betaine hydrochloride) for improved digestion. Try the liver detox diet - no sugar , no alcohol , low fat. Boring but should help. Nevertheless, the KILLER is stress. This is also the most difficult to change because if you have a stressful job you cannot just quit because you have to feed your family. Nevertheless, try cutting down on long hours and make sure you take all your vacation allowance. Hope this is of help.

I am a healthy, active, 26 year old woman and i had my gallbladder removed in February of this year. I have experienced an up and down of reactions to not having my gallbladder. There have been times when i am fine and feel like i can eat anything and live a normal life. However - at other times, i have diarrhea after eating and sometimes get really nauseous, sometimes so much so - that i throw up a greenish-yellow substance (i think it is bile). I have also lost around 10 to 15 pounds since my surgery. I have seen three gastro-specialists and two family doctors and have had tons of tests done including a CT Scan, barium swallow-lower bowel series, ultra-sounds, blood-tests, etc. Everything comes back negative.

At first the doctors told me they thought i had irritable bowel syndrome. I was prescribed Levbid, an anti-sposmadic, and i also have been taking Nexium for reflux problems. This seemed to work sometimes -- but, i continued to get really sick about once a month. I went back to the doctors who wanted to put me on an anti-depressant for the ibs. I refused b/c i didn't think that that was the real problem. I read a lot about ibs online and in books and my symptoms were a little different.

More recently, two doctors have told me that my problems could just be irritation of my intestines from the constant flow of bile, causing the diarrhea, and then the reflux of some of the bile into my stomach, causing the nausia and throw-up situations.

To be honest - the only thing i've tried so far that has really helped is oatmeal!!! Believe it or not, I've started eating instant oatmeal every morning for breakfast b4 i eat anything else. Oatmeal naturally binds the cholesterol in the bile ... which helps with the irritation. Since I've started eating it -- i have not had a serious episode of diarrhea (although sometims i still get soft or strange stoole). The doctor's told me to also try breaking pieces of the metumicil fiber wafers off and eating them after or during my meals. (start with small amounts of fiber) It has the same effect as the oatmeal. I still get really nauseous at times and have thrown up green one time since trying the oatmeal/fiber routine. It has made me feel a lot better. So maybe some of you can try that.

The only other piece of advice i have is listen to your body. If you feel something will help -- try it. But - if the doctors are not listening and making you feel bad -- see someone else. We all deserve to have someone really listen and help with our problems... that is what we are paying them for.

I know that we are all really stressed about our health problems right now. I just hope and pray that my body adjusts to this soon. I really feel that my life has become ruled by my stomach and its problems. I feel frustrated and stressed about all of the time - but I'm trying to keep a positive outlook. The doctor's say that usually people will adjust to the bile problems within a year or so. Let's keep hope.

Meghan

I had my gullbladder removed in 2002 and at the time it was a good thing. I realize the risk to my liver and the dangers as my gull bladder was full of stones. However, it was an organ that does a JOB so what to do when it is gone? I've had all of the same symptoms as all of you and it's driving me crazy. I have bile come up into my mouth, can't drink anything and bend over to pick up something because it will come back up, I have to run to the washroom 5-20 mins after eating as well and there is NO tracking foods cause this as it happens with everything. The bloating of my stomach and gas is ridiculous and makes me NOT want to even eat anymore. I sweat at night when trying to sleep and I get pains some times when I'm trying to eat. The pains are in the same spot as the gull bladder was and it feels like my food is trying to go through a spot similiar to a sand (time) hourglass. Trying to squeeze through a pinhole, the pain is severe and feels like I'm being stabbed. My friends have suggested taking enzymes which should help with the digestion of food. The doctors' tell you nothing after the surgery. Mine just said avoid fatty and greasy foods. Well Doc, how about avoiding ALL FOODS in general because of it makes me sick and uncomfortable. And how about the fact that I loose more than half of my meals within 5 mins yet I'm GAINING weight!!! I'm tired all the time too.

Well, so glad to have found a bunch of other people who suffer the same thing as me. Now I know it's not just "me" and that I may be facing this for the rest of my life. I have tried the enzymes this week and found that they are helpful with the gas and bloating.. I've been only on them for a short amount of time but I think this might be useful to be taking them. Will let you know.
