I was able to fix the problem I was having.

I noticed that when I do "ifconfig ppp0" the IP address in the "P-t-P:" field was the same address of my second NIC card (which was the card that was conntected to my internal LAN). I then changed the IP address of the second NIC card and I was able to connect to the internet afterwards. SBC must have changed the IP address to there Point-To-Point servers. I guess the routing config on my Linux box was confused when it had one NIC card with the same IP address as the P-t-P destination of the other NIC card.
