Subject: i need advice from john two hawks

Dear john,
Iwas recently on the native-voice web site. Arlo looking cloud was giving his opinion on wheather non-natives should be allowed to participate in ceremonies. He stated that The great spirit or god gave each race a way of worship and that one of the reasons that white people weren't allowed is that we killed "our god". when I heard this I got angry because no matter what you call him there is only one creator. If we killed our god then the great spirit is also dead because they are one in the same. I understand that he doesnt want just any body preforming any ceremonie that they feel like. But to use that exuse I thought was lame. We do not have a creator for each race, only one. We did not kill him and he is not dead. Also on the same issue about having to pray in Lakota or the great spirit will not hear the prayers, there are many native tribes and languages god can understand what ever language you speak right? Thats why he's the creator in the first place. Cherokees have thier prayers heard and so do Navajo's and so on. Lakotas are not the superior of the native americans right? and if the lakotas sat that then navajos can sat that navajo ceremonies will not have thier prayers heard unless you speak navajo and so on. this openes a big can of worms do'nt you think? I'm suprised that he did not speak out on you for selling native music to non-natives. He did this to another lakota and made it a point to say that he has a non-native wife, as if she put him up to it. the fact of the matter is that some tribes wouldn't survive unless they mixed whith whites or other native tribes because they had small populations. You are implementing the blood quantum theory if you say that as soon as a person is not full-blooded they are not indian any more right? I read once that a famous chief once said that "Being indian is not a matter of blood but a way of life. Anyone that can live the indians way of life can be an indian." I belive he said this because he belived in a coplete way of life,i.e. living off the land, respecting others, having faith and accepting things that happen as a part of the creators plan. Also he forgets that his own tribe has accepted many different peoples as family through the Hunakapapa ceremonie where new family ties are created and that once you are accepted as Lakota no one could say differently.Correct me if I spelled the name wrong. I think that non-natives or other natives who marry Lakota, should be given the chance to be accepted into the family as long as they prove to be good and worthy people right? This way they can be loved by thier community and their children have thier birth right. do not all poeople regardless of being all or half indian have a right to know their culture? PLease give us some advice and wisdom.

Peace to all races,
yvonne
