Subject: Domestic rabbit caught on the streets. Turned Wild?? Having problems! HELP

I have finally caught a seemingly reasonably young domestic rabbit that has been harrassing our neighbourhood for some time now. Im unsure of how long he/she? has been running wild but I do know it has been living off scraps thrown to it by various neighbours. It is obvious to me that some disgraceful pet owner has decided they would rather not have it & instead of finding him/her a new home, has just dumped it. Or its escaped from its previous owner & very lucky not to have been mauled by a dog or cat ( which we have many of both in our street). The problem is now that its so used to roaming free, as i beleive they really should be doing, the poor thing just sits in our purpose built hutch all day gnawing on the bars that keep him in. He/she seems so very unhappy, bored & uncontent, but I know I cant let it go as its fate would almost certainly be bad. I desperately need some tips & basic information on how to look after him/her properly, if theres anything i should definately not feed it (eg like dogs cant eat chocolate & onion) and if there is anything i can do to try & keep him/her more occupied. He/she doesnt like being handled & actually bites if tried to be picked up, but is getting better at being close to people (ie- not so jumpy & doesnt back him or herself into the corner when he sees you coming. I dont have a big backyard for it to jump around freely (& my neighbour has quite a large vicious dog). It is almost impossible to barracade it off & im afraid even if i did he would burrow under & be killed by the dog next door.ANY advice or ideas would be helpful & greatly appreciated by me & my new friend. : )
