Subject: Dead baby rabbits
In reply to: kathy 's message, "bunny pregnant" on 21:03:06 09/06/02 Fri

My rabbit gave birth over 2 days to 5 babies. Of the first 3, 2 where dead and 1 alive for a day but then died later. There was blood around the cage. The next day there were 2 more dead babies. All babies appeared to be a good size and I don't know why they would all die. Would the mother kill them? Why would she leave the alive one to die? She did make a nest for them and I have checked there are no babies inside it. All dead babies were found out of the nest. Do I removed the nest? The mother seems fine in herself but does keep going to the nest. Will she be OK? Is it best to breed her again quickly? Prior to the birth she wasn't eating much and had lost weight and on vets advise I gave her hay, carrots and moved her indoors still she gained body fat.
