++It may be a good idea to visit the page
<a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://members.iinet.net.au/~rabbit/qfsr.htm">http://members.iinet.net.au/~rabbit/qfsr.htm</a>
for facts on keeping rabbits.
I presume the person you obtained the rabbit from
gave you the facts on what to feed your bunny and what
not to feed etc?
You do need to protect your rabbit from Mosquitoes in
NSW. If your rabbit is allowed outside, consider a flywired
run/enclosure for exercising or only exercise during hours
when there are no mosquitoes around. Remember, mosquitoes
carry Myxomatosis and biting
and sucking insects can carry Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease
(RCD). This includes flies, mosquitoes and fleas.
So you need to weigh up the consequences of letting
your rabbit outside. Inside the house keep fleas under
control on cats and dogs and don't use flea products
on your rabbit as a rule. I have used pyrethium flea
powder CAREFULLY in the past only in case of flea infestation on a rabbit but mostly rabbits are fastidious
groomers and tend to groom the fleas off. If you have to
use flea powder only use a little, make sure it is pyrethium based and wipe the coat of the rabbit afterwards
with a damp facewasher to remove excess. No responsibility
is accepted by me for any bad reactions any particular rabbit may have to pyrethium based flea powder or by the
mis-use or mis-undertanding of the above information.
If you need further information on keeping rabbits,
visit the website above for Australian and New Zealand facts and visit www.rabbit org for general House Rabbit
Information. In Australia, there is a vaccine for Rabbit
Hemorrhagic Disease (RCD) but no vaccine for Myxomatosis
which I believe is the biggest transmissable
killer of pet rabbits in Australia.
Myxomatosis is spread by contact between rabbits.
Myxomatosis is also carried by mosquitoes, is deadly and has no cure. The RCD vaccine has allegedly caused some bad
reactions in some pet rabbits. RCD/RHD is also transmitted
by contact with people who have touched RCD/RHD contaminated objects or sick rabbits and RCH/RHD can
exist on inanimate objects that have come into contact
with the disease.
Good luck with your pet bunny and good on you for taking
in a pet rabbit from Queensland where owners/carers are
now under such threat of those idiotic regulations
(it could only happen in Queensland, they seem to be
going backwards compared to Australia's other States).

Kind regards,
Marguerite
