Subject: encephalitis in rabbits

Does anyone know about encephalitis in rabbits? How it is spread? There was a domestic rabbit that someone had set free in my neighborhood living in my neighbor's yard. After several failed attempts to catch it we just let it live there. But the other day we noticed it was having trouble getting around, so we caught her and took her to the vet. She couldn't use her back legs. THe vet said she had encephalitis and we should put her down, which we did. But we have a rabbit that we want to put out in a hutch during the warmer weather and we are afraid that she may catch it..if you know anything about it please give me some info
