The only thing I can think of is allergy. I am allergic to animal hair as well and that can make my eyes itchy and puffy, but that's no reason to get rid of the bun. Eye drops are readily available over the counter at any pharmacy, or you can take antihistamine tablets.

I can't think of anything life threatening or even anything that can make you really sick that you could catch from a bun.
