Subject: Bunny bites his feet

Hello,
my pet bunny, Ipkiss, (5 yrs old) keeps biting his front feet, the soles actually. He started 2 years ago, at first only one foot, there was nothing to be seen (no changes), within a week he developed an ulcer (approx. 6 mm in diameter), I took him to the vet, he had an X-ray (everything OK), and got an antibiotic ointment (gentamycine), which he, however, licked off as soon as I applied it. He kept biting, chewing his foot, so I bandaged it (some special veterinary bandages that he could not chew off). As soon as I took it off (I kept it on for a few weeks at a time, so that the skin there got a chance to heal), he started biting again, he even started chewing on his other front foot. His claws were never too long. He was biting one of his feet so badly, that he now has only 3 claws left. The area that he bites is pink, very rarely blood stained. It seems to me as if it itches or something. He steps on the most injured leg only if he has to (e.g. if he is running), as soon as he stops, he bites it. Is it possible that it is some sort of psychological disorder (like biting nails in humans)? The vet said it is not an infection, neither was there any trauma. He has hay and woodshavings in his cage, and a towel on hay, during the day he is in my room (bunny proofed), most of the time on a carpet under my bed. He has plenty of toys to chew on. Otherwise he is healthy, happy, weighing 1,3 kilograms. Only his foot hurts and he keeps biting it. Please, help.
Thank you,
Katarina
