Subject: Companion for older rabbit

I have an 8 1/2 yr old male (he's not desexed) who spends most of his time sleeping. I was thinking of getting a guinea pig to keep him company. Would this work or would they fight? When I was little I kept a rabbit and guinea pig together and they got on really well together (even grooming each other) but they were both female. Any advice would be appreciated.
