There is no guanrantee that ANY rabbit will like to be held at all, let alone by a child. Out of my 6 buns, 2 will tolerate it, 1 will sit quietly on my lap and the other 3 hate any contact whatsoever.. one of which is a lop by the way.

Rabbits really like to keep their feet on the floor and if held like to feel secure, something I'm not sure a young child can do. If they don't you run the risk of the rabbit breaking its back trying to escape or hurting the child will kicking with their strong back legs. Trust me, it hurts and I always have scratches and scars from trying to trim nails or brush buns that don't want to be held.

The best thing you can do is visit a refuge or pound and find a bun that has the right temperament and doesn't seem to mind being handled too much. The other thing you are going to have to do is educate the children. Make sure they understand that the bun will be frightened and not to grab at it or try to hold it if it's struggling.

I'd also suggest you have a look around the house rabbit society's website. It has tons of information and helpful advice

If you don't mind a trip to Sydney, have a look at Monika's

All her buns are fairly used to being handled
